Ill just stay with the classics. No goofy cheeks, mustache, teeth, etc. Theres that argument that older cars are less safe but older cars didnt weigh as much as a cargo ship and you could still improve their safety design with a few tweeks. Literally everyone wants reworked classics, why dont car companies just make those?
It's an oligarchy, so they just made what was easiest for them.
Now that there's asian cars that are more popular and cheaper they go cry baby poor us give us subsidies.
The merc would look okay with a black grille. Not stunning, but okay. I do like the mini merc logos in the lights.
The BMW just needs to start over.
BMW ass looks nice, combine it with the MB front grille in black and I won't be too mad.
I always think this about BMWs and then they somehow manage to grow on me. It's like they're released 2 years too early or something.
I'm sorry Europeans, but sitting on your vast catalog of drop dead gorgeous classic cars is a crime.
I mean, people remake them and sell them for a fortune why can't they just massage the old bodies and put them over there.
Honest answer, it's health and safety. Old designs aren't necessarily pedestrian impact friendly, and some don't leave a lot of options for crumple zones.
Being a car designer now, with all the limitations must be challenging/frustrating/suck
Edit: that's no excuse for the basking shark looking Merc and the ridiculous attempt at two front teeth on the BMW
Ez: just mandate that pedestrians have crumple zones instead of cars
Old designs aren’t necessarily pedestrian impact friendly, and some don’t leave a lot of options for crumple zones.
Depends. 30 year old designs are probably more pedestrian-friendly than SUVs. The shapes were certainly better for that, and I assume they already invented crumple zones in 1995.
They can massage them to fit modern aerodynamic and pedestrian safety standards, though.
Nope its not health and safety, a lot of old cars can be refitted for roll cages and most of them are way lighter than current cars, thus making them need less large crumple zones.
Its not a supply problem since almost every car maker on the planet still has a supply chain for old parts. and since modern manufacturing is so adaptable the cost of retooling the factories is pretty much negligible in the grand scheme of things.
Its not a demand problem bc every fucking person on the planet would buy an old bmw or mercedes over this minimalist slop. Hell old audis or 70's renaults look sexy as hell.
No its a damn mentality problem. They dont want to make old cars since it would be admitting that modern cars are designed like a tweaker on caffeine spat all over the design board. It would be admitting that car design has declined over the past 45 years. It would be admitting that the top brass at these companies are a bunch of useless limp dick baboons who's biggest contributions to the company are limiting themselves one line of crack a day.
Thats the reason why, that there is no good reason why not.
old American cars are so pretty tho
the white rims are the cherry on the cake
Douchemobiles
You know they do this on purpose, and you just showed exactly why it works. They make the design controversial so people talk and argue about it. They thank you for the free advertising.
That's literally Jaguar's business approach now.

I'm not sure others are necessarily doing that on purpose yet, but you are not a conspiracist here, lol.
Jaguar had no choice. I was working for one of their suppliers until a couple of years ago and their sales figures were not good. Nobody was buying their saloon cars anymore, and their SUVs were selling well but were essentially eating into Land Rover's market share, so they had to do something different. It is easier to sell low numbers of outrageously expensive cars than to mass produce cheaper ones so that's what they're gonna do.
BMW has stated this is their plan. https://www.forbes.com/sites/michaeltaylor/2022/10/27/controversial-bmw-design-is-punking-you-and-wont-stop-ceo-says/
I assume anyone with one of those BMWs with the giant grilles is a psychopath.
Sure buddy, I'm sure someone's gonna look a this lemmy post and jump straight to the dealership and buy the car just to spite me.
Also:
Looks like BMW decided to revert back to full Hitler.
WTF? Cars used to be so elegant.
Right one's got a hitler stache and very clenched ass cheeks
Both look good imho.
They look like every other SUV on the market. These things are designed by committee and focus groups.
