Elon Musk faces moment of truth in Europe as buyers turn on Tesla

    Working from home
  • I also work from home and use my work laptop for work only. Not even googling stuff, nothing. Just work. Never even opened the media player or went to youtubes website once.

I have my own computer running on a separate screen and I can do and watch whatever the fuck I want during working hours. I can play a game or watch a movie and nobody knows. Its that simple.

Same with phones. Never use work phone for personal stuff.

Its not even being tech savvy, just common sense ffs.

Hunting and fishing are for psychopaths
  • I agree, also here in Europe in many countries hunting is a hobby for rich people, and it has nothing to do with respecting nature. Its more about killing and showing off the trophies.

Big cars, expensive weapons and over the top attitude. Wish they would ban it.

Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford says his hopes on Epic Store were 'overly optimistic or misplaced'
  • Wasnt it already a PS+ game years before epic? It literally had millions of players on day one.

I dropped it after my steam copy first time asked me to register an epic account, but till then I didn't see huge issues with the game apart from the DLC milking.

    How do you use Wine/Proton?
  • Recently switched to Linux Mint.

There are really just a couple extra steps to set up Linux for gaming. In my opinion it takes less time to install proton ge, Lurtis or Heroic than downloading and installing GPU drivers on windows:)

For 90% I just download the game via Steam and enable Proton GE (if its not native) and play it straight away.

In some cases if Im not happy with performance I check the Proton DB page to see what settings/proton version/launch commands other people are using and that solves it 9 out of 10.

If you have GoG, Uplay, Epic, etc games just use Heroic or Lutris. Again, first time setup can take 20-30 min using a video tutorial, but after that its all good to go.

Do you prefer to buy games on Steam or GOG?
  • Thanks, yes projects like Heroic or Lutris are great, I use both.

It's just the fact that one of the all time most requested feature on GoG is Linux support for many years, yet its ignored constantly. Its just disappointing.

  • 800 games on Steam, 200 on GoG. I love the DRM free stuff, but Steam has so many great features its on a whole other level to be honest.

+Steam deck and Linux support is a huge positive.

GoG Galaxy is great, but also doesn't have a Linux client, which makes it less convenient. Still GoG has so many gems not available anywhere else that I am willing to split my game library just for the classics.

  • Sounds like you had one specific issue, which escalated to this level.

I'm on steam for almost 15 years, had issues with refunds, serial keys, hardware support, account issues and steam deck hardware replacement. Every time they resolved it in a friendly and professional manner within hours.

I'm not saying your opinion is invalid, but stating things like, they are only reachable via social media is a huge exaggeration at best.

Linux desktop market share climbs to 4.45%
  • Couple weeks ago switched to Mint on my main rig. Since then I also installed Linux on my wifes old laptop. It works great, runs fast and it was 99% a painless transition. With my Steam Deck thats 3 Linux devices in our household.

I wish I coud touch the win 11 on my work laptop as well.

    Also fuck Microsoft.

  • This is just to share my experience with everyone, especially the people still undecided.

I was planning the switch for months, and finally had a couple hours undisturbed from the wife and the kids :)

It was a slightly rocky start, as my USB wifi receiver did not have native drivers, but with wired internet and the official Mint tutorial the rest of the transition was super smooth.

The OS install went flawlessly and within an hour I had all the basic programs, browser and utilities up and running. I love that I just download the app from the dedicated place, no pointless web surfing for the latest versions.

I backed up my steam folder (with the rest of my files of course), so after installing the steam client and some quick synchronization I had my installed games library back in minutes. I did some testing and everything works great. As I own a steam deck I already had some experience with games not running natively on Linux, but a saw many great tutorials for beginners. I cant wait to test out some more games!

Edit: thank you for all the positivity and great feedback! I know Lemmy users love Linux and I have to admit I feel a little bit more included :D

Who knows, maybe I will start warching Star Trek next...

Hi all, I hope my post doesn't violate any rules, because of the links, if yes, please let me know.

I am a beginner with road bikes, I was always a MTB person, but I decided to get a road bike for my cardio exercise as I turned 40 and I have less option in my area for MTB rides.

Since Im a beginner with road bikes I would need some advice to not mess up my purchase. Of course I done some research as well, but never know what I missed.

Im in the EU and my budget is 700-750 EUR, so yes, it will be a budget bike. I will ride 3-4 times a week for 50-70 km distances. Some hills, but nothing serious.

    I found two possible candidates:

Triban RC500 The obvious choice, many reviews calling it the best budget bike under 1000 EUR, some compromises, but I think it would be perfect for me. Price: 750 EUR where I live.

Sava Vegur 1.2 A bit of a wild card, its currently on half off sale with a reputable online retailer for 680 EUR, but cant decide if its the deal of the year or I should be cautious. I know, I dont need a carbon bike for my needs, but still, Im curious if anyone ever had experience with the brand? I found reviews, opinions, etc but nothing which would tell me to buy or not buy it specifically. Its a Chinese brand, but thats about it from what I can see.

Thanks for the time and I would prefer constructive feedback if possible :)

I'm getting an android tablet soon (will be a present and a little birdie told it to me). Nothing fancy, just some mid-range 10 inch one with basic features. I'm planning to mainly use it for comic books, but while I'm at it might as well watch movies on it.

So my question is: any good setup/apps/guides for movie streaming or downloading I should know about? I don't have a home server, or anything, usually just torrent what I want on my desktop PC and watch it there, but I have zero experience with pirating movies on android.

I will definitely not use the tablet for social media, google services, etc so I can do with it whatever I want, it's purely for comics/ebooks/movies.

    Hi Lemmings!

I have my Deck since March 2022. I was one of the fortunate ones to receive it quite soon.

Lately I noticed two things: The right joysticks movement is not as smooth as it was before and sometimes it makes a creaking noise.

The "A" button lost some of its resistance and become super sensitive in some games registering twice per button push. For example in a text heavy game I often skip dialogues because of this.

The device is in a perfect working order, no abuse, no damage, screen protector since day 1, protective skin applied, etc.

My question: Should I contact Valve and ask for a repair..

...or maybe try to get some nice replacement parts and upgrade the buttons and joysticks?

How does the available replacements compare to original parts? Are they an improvement? Or should I go the safe route and let Valve repair it for me?
