I have a HUGE favor to ask of all my #StitchyFriends...

BASIC #StitchingSafety states that one should refrain from holding #PinsAndNeedles in one's mouth while working.

Unfortunately, this has been a #BadHabit about 40 years old now.

If you all would be so kind, PLEASE remind me periodically that my #Embroidery needle doesn't belong in my mouth while #Stitching.

My poor, sore tongue thanks you.

\#FantasticCrossStitchToolsAndWhereToFindThem I actually got this one off Facebook awhile back. Florescent #FishingLine! Great for #Gridding in #CrossStitch or #Basting in #Quilting or #Sewing. It's bright enough 2 be seen, but slippery & strong enough that your needle won't pierce it while #Stitching. If I remember correctly, it comes in more than just neon yellow, too. Can be found in almost any #SportingGoods department or store. @lemmy\_stitch @crossstitch @quilting @sewing @christianstitchers

  • @Sarah @lemmy_stitch @crossstitch The one my Husband has is actually REALLY SMALL. Until I actually saw it, I didn't think a grab tool could be that little and actually work! You may want to see if you can find one in a store to see for yourself if it may be the right size to help.

I'm sorry! Scratch that! They have a tool you might be able to use for that too! A flexible grab tool!!This pic is of a set Walmart carries for around $7. It includes the telescoping magnet tool, a magnetic bowl (also great to keep track of #PinsAndNeedles) and the flexible grab tool. You push the button on the end to open the little claw. These should also be found in most automotive tool stores. #FantasticCrossStitchToolsAndWhereToFindThem

  • @Sarah @lemmy_stitch @crossstitch Maybe you could get one and put double-sided tape on the end so they stick to the tape when you need to pick them up?? It *might* work! 😄

Mechanics normally use a #Mechanics Telescoping Magnetic Pick-Up Tool 2 pick up small bolts & other metal that have fallen as they work, but those who #CrossStitch, #Sew, #Quilt, etc., can use it to pick up lost pins & needles so they don't wind up goosing someone when they sit on the couch. 😅 Can be found in almost any automotive store or automotive tool section in Walmart. Some versions even have flashlights on the end! @lemmy\_stitch @crossstitch

  • @kerravonsen @lemmy_stitch @crochet @knitting Yes! Exactly! I usually work from a table or a TV tray, and we don't have much room, so it's perfect for me and it holds my tablet exactly where I can see it best! 😄

\#FantasticCrossStitchToolsAndWhereToFindThem This is a Monster Dual Adjustable Dashboard Car Mount - Normally for two cell phones or one large one for use in a vehicle. But I found it and immediately knew it would help me immensely when I #CrossStitch because it's compact and it takes up far less room than my tablet's case/cover stand. You can find it at Advance Auto at https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/monster-double-vision-2-in-1-foldable-dash-mount-2mncm0112b0a2/12252355 or on Amazon

I have been informed that using packing tape to somewhat "laminate" labels on my attempts to reorganize my #EmbroideryFloss #Stash is too noisy at the current hour... Therefore I have been relegated
  • @verity_kindle I can imagine! Husband is trying 2 sleep in & we live in a small 1 bedroom apartment, so I don't have any other rooms 2 go in & close a door 2 keep noise down. It's a bit frustrating because I *really* want 2 get it all finished before the weekend so I can design or stitch. But...if it was me, I wouldn't be as nice as 2 simply say, "Why don't you work on #CrossStitch for awhile?" instead of having 2 apologize later for sounding like a combo of Yosemite Sam & the Tasmanian Devil...

I propose a new hashtag for #CrossStitchers to follow! #FantasticCrossStitchTools or #FantasticCrossStitchToolsAndWhereToFindThem . (Yes, kind of a shameless take on J.K. Rowling's Fantastic Beasts series. But better! Because it has to do with #CrossStitch!)

So, this is to share all our favorite tools & where we found them so others can search them out & enjoy them too. If it's been gifted, it's okay to share it too, but each share has to include where you got it.

I know this is #Embroidery instead of #CrossStitch (for the cross stitch groups), but I found this on X (that's such an awful name, isn't it?) and thought it was really cute so I wanted to share. I know there are some out there who organize similar animations with cross stitchers, too, but I've never gotten to participate.

    Enjoy!

  • @lemmy_stitch @crossstitch @embroidery @textilearts @fiberarts @fibrearts So! I've posted the Iris Color Chart, their conversions and my own conversions in case anyone else buys Hobby Lobby's thread packs and wants to have an easy(er) time of converting to DMC. They are the Primary, Pastel and Variegated Colors thread packs, and Iris apparently sells to Michael's and other retailers too. #HappyStitching! 😄

I...kinda sorta bought some more embroidery floss today. Three thread packs at Hobby Lobby. They package it as "Artiste" but it's actually manufactured in Mexico by a company that sometimes goes by "Hilo Iris" and other times simply by "Iris." I found a color list from 2011 online, and a DMC conversation chart they compiled themselves. But, being the OCD idiot I am, I decided to try to match the threads myself...

I decided awhile back that I won't share fully completed #PrayerCloths to groups because I know they offend some people & I want to be sensitive to that. But I thought it may still be okay to share progress before the Scripture is added. If any are interested in seeing it finished, I'll post that to my page with #CrossStitch & a few others.

Me (at 4:45PM): I'll #CrossStitch for 15 minutes before I start cooking dinner.

Husband (five hours later): Can we order Domino's before they close at 11???

Found this on YouTube in relation to project prep & organization & thought I'd share. I already have my own way I prep & organize for projects, but I still thought it was amazing & that someone else may want to see if it works for them. The video also shows some clips of how they organize floss into binders, though not how they do that part, and I thought that was pretty ingenious too. https://youtu.be/tmj7ELFcqHc?si=pqWIslhs2bd9Ybog

  • @breadsmasher I love how #atheists love 2 attack my #faith & the faith of others. #PrayerCloths aren't the ONLY answer 2 #healing, but they DO help those with faith. The #Bible itself doesn't say 2 rely on them alone; it talks about Paul (a man of faith) & Luke (a doctor with faith) working together 2 heal the sick. #God tailors each person's healing 2 their level of faith. If you choose 2 only trust doctors, that's your choice. But I pity you for the disadvantage that puts you in. #GodBless

Does anyone here have any tips for making cross stitching easier on hand joints?
  • @KittenBiscuits @LaunchesKayaks I use my compression gloves all the time while stitching. They help reduce fatigue and swelling...and they make my hands look fancier while I'm working! 😉

  • @Fermion Yes. A #TrolleyNeedle is a type of #LayingTool, though the manufacturer says it can be used for other purposes too. In #CrossStitch, a laying tool is used to make sure stitches lay flat. I use mine to help me catch knots starting to form as I'm #Railroading stitches so the don't get unmanageable. I also feel that they look much nicer combining the Railroading with the use of the trolley needle.

This is how I use a #TrolleyNeedle as a #LayingTool while #Railroading in #CrossStitch . I apologize I couldn't do a longer video than about two stitches--it told me my video was too large to upload otherwise.

  • @MrJameGumb I still do all mine by hand. 🙂 I have a bit of OCD, especially when it comes to organizing cross stitch & other creative supplies. But I'm also a little strange to most people because I actually enjoy winding bobbins almost as much as I enjoy stitching. I think I was just wired to love textiles, art, crafts--anything creative altogether, whether it has to do with the supplies to make pretty things, organizing them, designing a new project, kitting it up--whatever. I just love it all!

  • @MrJameGumb Bobbins, floss caddies, all fabric in a computer bag, most tools in floss box with one section always open for ORTS (cleaned out following each project). Also have some "Stitch Folios" to keep hoops, larger fabric scissors, some craft baggies and a few other things in like pin backs, D-rings and split rings (for key chain fobs), etc. Extra skeins are in a gallon sized ziplock in the same computer bag as the fabric. I use the Thread Stash app to help keep track of embroidery floss.
