Nintendo won't use generative AI in its first-party games
Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa has revealed that the company currently has no plans to use generative AI in its games due to IP rights concerns.
A rare "Nintendo did a good thing" moment.
More of a “doesn’t plan to do a bad thing” moment since they technically didn’t do anything.
Nintendo is actually pretty good for it's employees, and at developing games. The main reason people don't like it is how strongly they try to protect their IP.
I actually think this might be an extension of them protecting their IP. Afterall, the IP of plenty of other companies has been mined for use training Generative AI LLM's.
This is it, pretty much. I don't agree with people who are aggressively against Nintendo in general, especially in cases like the MIG-Switch, but at the same time, they operate in such a bizarre grey area. It's unbelievably stupid to both prevent software preservation, and not allow legal ways to obtain those titles

Honestly, if any game could make good use of generative AI it'd be wario ware.

Why is this a thing? I’m not for generative ai writing code and making art. I just feel like they’re shooting themselves in the foot here. I love that mod that basically acts as an impromptu dungeon master when you communicate with NPCs.
What mod for what game are you talking about? Is the mod just writing flavor fluff or is it weaving in important information?
If it is the former, I don't care for it. I don't want to know that farmer John had a good crop of turnips. It is just filler fluff that does not build on the setting but simply makes it look busy for the sake of being busy.
If it is the latter, I would think that there is a risk that the AI NPC conveys information in a hard to understand or misleading way and players would have a hard time understanding what to do.
Its a Skyrim mod, or a collection of mods. I never used it myself.
It's more like a quality control thing I guess. Generated content is going to be derivitive by its nature so banning it internally is forcing the devs to be creative.
