After 20-25 years, it's more or less used for a spam pit and less important things now. No sense walking away from it when there's no finances or other dangerous things attached
10 yo me on his way to include his day, month and year of birth in his reddit username that cannot be changed and to get enough karma on that account to not want to delete it.
While it's not quite the same, Google does allow you to stay signed into multiple accounts. Just click your profile photo in the upper-right and click "Add another account". After signing into the other account, you can seamlessly switch between them. The same steps can also be used for any Google Android app.
Friend got locked out of Instagram account because yahoo deactivated their email. Instagram flagged the email as inactive. After my friend forgot their password, Instagram wouldn't send pw reset emails even after reactivating the account. They also has no direct customer support whatsoever, so that account was lost.
When I was in college I got an early invite to Gmail, and did the fistname.lastname address.
All my day jobs have also had the same format, as does my university faculty ID (I teach night classes).
It's kinda handy that you just use my (unique) name and the organization to get in touch with me.
Though it's super annoying on my phone's autocomplete since the screen above the keyboard shows "firstname.lastname@...." 3 times and I don't know which is which.
I do find that interesting all your jobs use the same name format. My jobs have all had different formats lol
One was first initial last name, one was last name first initial (same as my school), my current one is just first name which is cool because if there are any other people who come here later I will be the original one lol, etc
Also my second job had four people with the same name as me, but one of them was much older and died while I was still working there, then I left a year later so then they were down to two. lol
Exactly and then you can block that one addressband you dont get spam anymore. You can make the addresses up as you go btw, it will receive every email sent to your domain anywaya
My first Hotmail address was based off my football position and jersey number. During high school I changed positions and numbers along the way, making it obsolete.
Still useful for signing up to things I know are gonna spam me with bullshit though, the ad copy can join old MySpace reminders.
Same, I made a more professional email address that was easier to tell people over the phone. I didn't think at the time that my middle initials are A & T.
Now the confusion is I say my email addres is "firstname at lastname @ gmail.com"
When I was like 11 I made two emails, one with a dumb name and another more professional one that's just my name. I didn't want to send emails to adults with the dumb name one because I didn't want to explain it.
I still use my Hotmail account. I created it 9/12/2001. The shock must have been so great that I needed to make my first email account. Why yes, the handle is related to Godsmack's second album.
