The only thing that will stop this tariff nonsense is the economic collapse of the U.S. as a consequence. He will exempt companies who makes chips in the US - as long as they make some of them in the US, their imports are exempt from the tariff. A quick glance says major chip makers (Intel, AMD, Nvidia) have some production facilities in the US.

About everyone uses non-US chips in the US. Think about anything digitally controlled, and there will be at least one non-US chip in it. Sometimes dozens, sometimes hundreds.
