Games that still need more patience: what games released a year ago (or older) are you waiting for a sale on? Or that need another patch?
Other than a slew of Nintendo titles that maybe hopefully will come down in price (the patient gamers' bane), I have my eye on the next time Divinity: Original Sin 2 goes on sale. A friend who never plays anything other than WoW loved playing Larian's newest with me and I'm trying to get her to pick this up. Pretty sure she'd like it.
I was also watching Star Trek: Infinite's progress. I was quite interested in that one at launch but firmly decided to be patient. Naturally, it was discontinued last week. Oof.
Are there any games you're currently price watching? Or hoping for bug fixes/more content?
I really liked Cities Skylines, but I'm getting the impression the sequel isn't exactly being embraced by the community. Are mods not possible yet or is it that there aren't many that have been released?
It was a step down in some instances and didn't provide modding tools out of the gate. Modders are actively shunning it last I heard. More people are playing the original than 2
Nah, they forgot that the core concept of the game combined with the mod support is what made cs1 great. Now for part 2 they tried to go bigger and ended fucking the simulation and they still do not have mod support.
I watch some videos by city planner plays.. and you can just see his disillusionment with cs2.
BG3 honestly. I‘m not willing to pay more than 40 bucks for a digital copy of a game no matter how good - especially considering the amount of games that I have piled up waiting to be played.
Bunch of games on my Steam wishlist I'm mildly interested in but not willing to pay more than about $10 for, since they'd just wind up sitting in my backlog until I have time to play them. Waiting for a steep sale.
Some of the highlights:
Cassette Beasts
Sonic Frontiers
Cyberpunk 2077
Red Dead Redemption 2
Dark Souls III
Edit: Didn't see the "year ago or older" caveat in the title.
Years and years ago I got partway through Dragon Quest XI on the PC, and then got sidetracked and started something else.
Fast forward to a few weeks ago when I had a hankering to get back into it, but the Definitive Edition has released since I last played it and I'd kinda like to play that version instead. But I'm not about to pay $40 for a game I basically already own, so I'm holding off and waiting for a sale.
Other than that, Super Mario Wonder. It's a fool's errand to wait for a Nintendo sale, but I guess I'm a fool.
I managed to get Wonder from my library a couple weeks ago (put in for it at release, to give you an idea of how long that took). Delightful game, wish I had longer checkout period.
But yeah, can still expect to pay quite a bit for Super Mario Odyssey even now.
To me DQ11 is such a treasure I'd probably get it full price, just to let SE know there's still love for that series (not that they'd listen). But, the S version doesn't add a ton, though... In fact, you get better music and a little more content (and a 2D mode) but technically a graphical downgrade because it's the switch version. It might get a half off eventually, though.
Having a full party with Shypox, though... Now that makes S worthwhile, haha.
I bought it on sale then there was some force account creation I didn't notice on the purchase page and that was it for me, I refunded it. I'm not interested in some additional account I don't need for any reason. I was just looking for a single player experience.
I agree that forcing you to create an account for a single player game is stupid and annoying. And they only do that on the PC version. However, I can never recommend RDR2 enough.
I bought it because I had just finished GTA V and wanted more. Some told me RDR2 was like GTA with horses. But it is so much more than that.
It is now my favorite game of all time. I've done 2 complete playthroughs on PS4 and recently started another on PC. Once I finish the PC playthrough I plan to start messing around with some mods.
With Fez I feel I may have forever missed the window when I could have picked it up. It used to go on sale for $1.99 with an all time low of $0.99. Now it never gets under $4.99.
In a vacuum I'd probably just pick it up for 4.99 but knowing the pricing history I just can't do it.
It’s so much fun. It’s the best $40 game purchase I’ve made since I can remember. It brought me back to when you got a whole finished game for that price.
I'm waiting for persona 3 remake and p5 tactics to go down because those games always seem to eventually be on sale for around $20 after ~12-24mo and I'm behind enough on games it is worth saving the $40+
VA-11 Hall-A. I played like an hour of it when it was on gamepass and liked it a lot, but then it left and I've been waiting on a sale ever since. It's not like it's even that expensive, but I'd hope to get it like 50% off because it came out in like 2016.
Apparently GOG has it for 33% off right now which is basically the historical low, so I'll probably pick it up. Glad to hear you liked it, I've heard nothing but good things so far
Ugh I hate to admit it, but I haven't got Disgaea 6 Complete and will eventually, probably. I enjoyed 5, I heard 6 is worse, but they make lovely Deck games.
That said, you have to first wait for a complete version (f all that dlc noise) and then the discount. For crying out loud there's already a 7.
There's probably a few others but that's the first that comes to mind.
System Shock (2023) just had a big new patch and is just about to tick over the one year mark. Seems like a great time to play it again for the first time.
Edit: Realized you said one year or longer. I was focused on the "waiting for updates" part.
Definitely waiting for Persona 3 Reload to both come down in price significantly and get the mostly confirmed epilogue content. But I'll be very patient with this one. P5 Royal took me years to finish and I've already played through the original P3 back in the day. No rush at all from me.
Street fighter 6. I hate this part in fighting games where the meta completely changes when a new character has been added or when balance patches have been released, so I'm waiting for the season passes to end and the meta to stabilize.
