Where do you get your gaming news?
I was wondering where everyone went to get news, reviews, trailers, etc. IGN has always left a bad taste in my mouth with their seemingly bias reviews. I used to go to the gaming, games, Xbox, and a couple other smaller niche subreddits to gather the vast majority of the info. Now I'd like some advice on what others favorite sites are. Bonus points if it has an app. Thanks!

32Usually The Verge or Ars Technica. They're not dedicated gaming sites by any means, but they cover enough for me. If I want to see gameplay, I watch IGN reviews, but I take their commentary with a grain of salt.
22I like Ars. For videos/reviews I personally like Skillup, ACG, and Eurogamer mostly, also digital foundry. Plus the official channels for the various consoles.
11Ars does fantastic work. Their coverage of space and rocketry especially. Just watch out for the wired articles that get crossposted. Many of those are just not good

If a specific game has a blog I'll also add it to that category. Sadly, not many gaming sites support RSS anymore, but this collection has good coverage imo.

Skill up has a weekly show about what's coming up, what's come out, and a bunch of indie games. He's on break for a month at the moment, but it's good content and has got me to buy a few good games.
Game linked is another channel from Linus Tech Tips that is focused on gaming and I have faith they do their research properly.
Gameranx is also quite good.
All of these are YouTube channels.
16Skill Up is a good one. Digital Foundry also has a weekly show that covers news, which I find is well done.

I use an RSS reader app/website plugged into all the various news sites for gaming on all consoles and PC that a browse a few times a day. I post a lot of the news I like to the communities I mod. If you're looking for an app, I recommend an RSS reader (there are a lot to choose from so I would dabble in a few and see what you like).
If you're looking for gaming centric communities you probably already know where to find them on here, but resetera has good discussions as well. If you want to look for other communities across lemmy instances you can use https://lemmyverse.net/communities (be sure to set your home instance with the "home" icon so all links open correctly).
16If you are a penguin I would recommend GamingOnLinux. I think it is more or less a one man operation, however contrasting to IGN and the likes I also think that is a good thing.

There's also YouTube channels like ManlyBadassHero, SplatterCatGaming and AlphaBetaGamer that are great at showcasing more niche games.
9For general gaming news, I go with Jeff Gerstmann and the Nextlander guys. For more technically focused stuff, it's hard to beat Digital Foundry and their methodology of focusing on the user experience over benchmark numbers. I think all of those folks have been around long enough to be above chasing the hype cycle for traffic and they all have context from decades of being in the industry. Rich from DF started working in games media in 1990 and Jeff started working at Gamespot in 1996. It's hard to find other folks who have been in the industry that long and still working in games coverage.

4I use Goodnews to read RSS feeds from Destructoid, Eurogamer, GamesIndustry, Gematsu, Nintendo Life, PC Gamer, Rock Paper Shotgun, RPG Site, The Jimquisition, VG247, and Xbox Wire.
4You can also create an RSS feed from any subreddit by adding .rss to the URL. I check r/games from feeder a few times a week just to see the top news stories.

Between Mandalore Gaming, Civvie11, Gmanlives, and JarekTheGamingDragon I feel like most things interesting to me will filter in. Otherwise my Steam page knows me pretty well, so if I see something interesting looking I’ll read user reviews and go find some raw gameplay footage.
4Jesse Cox on YouTube has been doing a "5 Minute Gaming News" show, where he basically goes over the daily gaming news. From there, it's usually easy enough to find articles about it. He also covers new releases on mondays, with trailer highlights and stuff. It's pretty neat.

Now a days I get my gaming news from my favorite streamers on YouTube or Twitch.
2Remap Radio is pretty awesome. They're the same Waypoint Radio team from Vice. Currently podcast-only (no written articles for now) after being laid off from Vice, but they're fully independent now, and as excellent as ever! They know their shit.
2They all seem a bit mean and pessimistic on the couple videos of theirs I've watched
2Yeah I know what you mean. Their style of banter and humor can be jarring, it took me a bit to get used to their way of talking about things. But once you get to know their personalities they become seriously endearing. Big fan of the whole crew now.
Pessimism is another story though. While I can totally see how you might see/hear them that way, I interpret it more as realism than pessimism. They know their industry in and out, so they’re not shy about telling it how it is.

I listen to a couple of gaming podcasts for news. Mainly the podcasts by Last Stand Media. They do a PlayStation one called Sacred Symbols, an Xbox one called Defining Duke and a Nintendo one called Punching Up. I enjoy all of the quite a bit.
They're all free to listen to, so you can check them out to see if you're into them.

1Surprising, the Google homepage on Android (swipe right) seems to have some pretty decent news recently. I'm unsure if that's because after a decade and a half all the data I've given them finally has yielded actually good results or if they've changed the way it works.
1I went a bit different route to get info about the games I play the most. I realized that most of them have an official discord with announcement channels that have all the updates. So in one of my discord servers I created a game feed category and a channel for each game. Then subscribed each game channel to the matching announcement channels from the official servers. It has worked really great for quickly seeing what’s going on with each game.  It actually ended up working so well that I ended up doing the same thing for RSS feeds for things outside of gaming too. Now I just check my Info Hub to see what’s new.

0Google News tbh. I find most gaming news outlets pretty bad so it's hard to follow a single target so I just read the headlines and follow up on youtube if it's something worth looking into.
Weirdly enough I find a lot of great stuff on TikTok these days. Especially regarding indie games. Lots of creators sharing their game dev experience too.
