Oh, a morning routine! It's my favorite part of the day and something I'm oddly passionate about!
Most importantly, I make sure to go to bed at a reasonable time the night before, and i leave my curtains open to let the sunlight wake me up naturally. Just in case I'm extra sleepy, I set a vibration alarm on my phone and place it under my pillow for backup
After I wake up, I:
I have really shit mental health, so I have to take extra care of myself and be very intentional about my actions. My morning routine is a sacred part of the day and helps me enjoy being alive :)
Shower has to be the #1 spot.
If I don't shower first I will feel like shit and wont do anything productive whatsoever.
No amount of caffeine can equal the power of a hot shower.
I used to be the same :) But a while back, I was hospitalized for severe depression. I learned in IOP that doing something you love to warm up for the day - instead of immediately pursuing productivity - improves happiness and helps me look forward to the day instead of dreading it and making it hard to get out of bed in the morning.
Cat tax. Got pics?
I wish I was back asleep.
After did you have a smoke then somebody spoke as you went into a dream?
I curse Death that she didn't take me in my sleep.
Do you by any chance happen to work between the hours of 9:00 and 5:00?
What a way to make a living...
Wake up, reach for my phone “just to wake my eyes up,” proceed to waste time and as a result rush through the rest of whatever else I have to do in the morning.
That's exactly me.
Then I start my day. That's been my routine for a bit over 2 months now? Can't complain
Keeps the self righteous suicide away
1, 4, 7, 6, potty, 17, 8 work, 9. Wish i could do 15 and 16. Wish i knew more about 13.
I'm surprised at how many people don't take a piss first thing in the morning.
Well, I personally prefer getting out of bed before that, but you do you I guess.
I pee. Then I get out of bed. Start coffee. Take a shower. Get out of wet pyjamas and put on dry clothes for work. I didn't think it needed to be said.
Do you cover "the spot"?
Love how this thread is mostly actually reasonable morning routines :)
I go grab some very cold water
Hah, it's the opposite for me - I grab some very warm water.
Don't worry, we respect all water drinkers
Cold water first thing in the morning makes my diaphragm cramp up and knock the wind out of me like I just got kicked in the stomach. If I'm standing up when it happens I crumple to the floor in the fetal position. Tepid water for the win.
Go to the bathroom and hudge a big 'ol grumpy
Pray for one more second of ecstatic comfort and numbness to the world. Contemplate why the world is the way it is. It's not right.
Wake up Shit Check the stonk markets Get out of bed
But a serious answer, I wake up Use restroom while scrolling lemmy and checking news Brush teeth Drink tall glass of water Drink small glass of orange juice (~50-100ml) Make and eat breakfast (bagel/toast and cheese/ eggs) while reading on phone Drink coffee (prepped the night before to brew automatically when I wake up) Get dressed and pack backpack Bike to work
Where poop
If it works then during step 1. Or after step 10., but probably before or at work during the week :)
Your mom
Grab my Steam Deck, continue to play Morrowind cleaning out every shop in Balmora
I need my coffee before I can save the world ☕
Usually wake up at 8 to take ADHD medication and then sleep for an hour (I've heard that ADHD meds absorb better if you don't eat in the hour before or after you take it, but this could be false). Then get up at 9, shower if I have to, get dressed, make breakfast watch YouTube and then get ready for work.
On days I'm not working I do the same thing but I might shower later but I just won't get ready for work because I don't need to.
I also wake up to take my adhd medicine, and then sleep for another hour. Makes waking up less... chaotic
Honestly, it's so much easier too. Getting that extra like hour-ish of sleep is nice.
It largely depends on what tasks await me that day.
I set two alarms, one at 5am and another at 6am. The first alarm is lighter and less obtrusive, it's just meant to nudge me and let me know that it's getting close to waking up. I know myself and I know I'll take a awhile to get up. Even the 6am alarm, louder and more jarring, I'll hit snooze on. Then when 6:30am comes, it's a flurry of activity getting myself up, stumble to the bathroom to pee, start prepping stuff for the morning, wake the kids up, get them ready, then rush out the door. It usually happens within the span of 45-55 minutes every morning.
Lately it’s been taking a walk. Love how it kickstarts my day!
Turn off my alarm, go back to bed with my phone and convince myself that I'll just have a quick look at Lemmy, then decide to check the news and proceed to surf around the Internet for the next two hours until the threat of pissing myself forces me to finally get up and rush to the toilet.
Eggs!
Pee then smoke.
Drink between four and six double shot espressos.
Yes, I might have a bit of an addiction.
Funny thing is that caffeine is a dependancy drug. Those espressos aren't perking you up, they're just bringing you back to normal.
I found caffeine surprisingly easy to give up and unlike nicotine, I don't miss it at all.
I have 2 Delonghi Magnifica espresso makers, one is at 35,000 shots poured, the other is over 40,000. At this point, I figure my body is 25% caffeine molecules.
Your statement is true to an extent (like anything), but using caffeine can be effective for improving focus and alertness, even over non-caffeine users.

I find this guy to present an interesting and somewhat scientific perspective on things. I completely don't do things the way he suggests, so bad on me. And my intake is way above his suggested amounts, obviously.
And 100% on the nicotine thing, I've stopped drinking coffee for a few months at a time, and I've had nothing like the cravings I still get for nicotine a decade+ after I've quit. I fucking love smoking, I just don't do it anymore.
I get to like 2-3 before lunch, but 4 to 6 in the morning?
Feed my asshole of a fish, who proceeds to ignore the food until it gets sucked up by the filter, and I have to put more in.
Wake up, bathroom things, put on running clothes, put on running shoes, get rest of running gear, and then go for a run. Come home shower, drink my green drink, then work.
Go back to bed for an hour or more. Then force myself out of bed while I'm freezing (even in a warm room). Pee. Get on clothes. Go outside to buy a iced coffee (more for the morning walk than for the coffee).
Heres a weird thing.. Step 1 and 2 has been so much easier lately. After I started taking 2g fast-release melatonin pills before bed. Why would pills for falling asleep faster help me waking up 7.5 hours later? I'm hoping struggling with those two steps can be a thing of the past, if this continues. I hate how grumpy (and cold, and slow) I usually am every darn morning.
Jerk off cuz I always have super painful boners in the morning.
Turn off my phone alarm and turn the lights on in my room so I don't fall back asleep.
Take my morning medicine with a tall glass of water, then roll over and sleep for some 20 minutes until it kicks in and I can force myself to get up. Then, breakfast, water the plants and shower.
Replace 20 with 60 and plants with dishes - we're effectively routine twins. Also have a habit of, after the water, bringing a cup of coffee to bedside with me ("I'm totally not falling back asleep") only to forget about it the moment my head touches the pillow.
Love watering my dishes honestly. Also a big "turn on the espresso machine then pass back out without making any coffee" kinda guy
Pee then get in the shower. Feed the dog, brush teeth (possibly shave), Then I'm usually ready for my day.
Drink a full glass of tap water
First I fill and start my kettle, while it heats up I open the blinds and go to the toilet. Then I make myself some tea which I drink while watching a SC2 cast by Harstem. Afterwards I brush my teeth, get dressed and leave for work.
I hit the streets a-running’ And try to beat the masses…
Turn off alarm and see what disaster emails I have to deal with due to timezones.
Pet the dog and cat, who are conspicuously glad I woke up.
Tooth brushing is soon to follow because my mouth is always crap.
