I don't think thats fair. I think the idea is that a dictatorship invading a democracy in eastern europe is something the free world can't allow to happen, same way they couldn't if Iran invaded The Netherlands, and this is why all of europe and the US are helping them defend themselves.

That's far from the right way of saying it. You're just contributing to the polarization. Not funding foreign wars isn't treason, regardless of the lack of merit of Putin's assault on Ukraine. We can all disagree with each others stances without getting into vitriolic Us vs Them flame wars.

It is possible to oppose funding for reasons other than being controlled by Putin. There is no evidence that anyone who voted this way hold opinions to that effect. There is substantial evidence that they are funded and supported by Russia.
Being upset people use a shorthand phrase for a politician being influenced by a foreign power is just another way of defending compromised politicians.
In the time of active war I don’t think not supporting Ukraine is an option. Don’t cherry pick their vote on the matter as a whole. The people who voted against supporting Ukraine have done a lot of work to convince US citizens that supporting Ukraine is wrong. Which is then fundamentally flawed because if they don’t support Ukraine then Putin are certainly going to take over Ukraine, and all the biggest allies of US in the Europe are under direct threat of Putin. Unless they are acting on behalf of pure evil, pure hate against Ukraine, or perhaps on behalf of Putin himself, I don’t see why they would want US to be out of the game.

Just here to point out that the USA has sent about $71B to Ukraine. We’ve sent more than the next 7 countries combined. Further the military allotment of that (43B) dwarfs the next country (which I’m now reading is EU Institutions) by 10B.
The conservative party’s job is to reduce spending and make sure we aren’t moving too far into debt. They’re wrong in a HUGE number of cases, and I don’t know what I think about this case. It’s a bit unfair though, to call them traitors when the next country down the list would have to DOUBLE their contribution to this war to even be in the same conversation as us. We’ve paid a lot.
Adding complexity to this conversation, part of what we’re wanting to send is cluster munitions. Am extremely controversial move and one which I believe we should rethink.

I’m honestly surprised that seemingly everyone in here supports funding the Ukraine war over looking after the American people. As an Australian I’d be livid if we were sending all our money to Ukraine or any other country when we’re in the midst of a cost of living crisis, with interest rates skyrocketing, and with a looming recession.
I am from this vodka state so I may be biased, but as I see it, some republicans don't really care about this issue and pick that position only to be contrarian and farm votes on 'anything against dems'-train. They aren't clever, really. Russia does benefit from it and probably encourage that with it's money, but for republicans it's not about Ukraine, Russia or anything, it's about owning the dems and getting into the office. And some of them probe even this edgy position.
That money is going to a democracy to fight Russia, a white nationalist oligarchy. They want Russia to win.

While I appreciate the progress we've made in diminishing Russia's warfare capabilities through this proxy war,, I believe it's time for us to take a step back and allow other countries to assume responsibility for the financial burden.
Considering the significance of this conflict, the remaining nations in the free world should be willing to provide ongoing support. It's not sustainable for our country to continuously fund every European conflict. I'd prrefer we avoid becoming a quasi-imperialist state where we exert control over the rest of the world, and instead empower our allies to take on greater autonomy and responsibility.
This shouldn't really be a controversial take, but positions like this usually just get downed down under all the low effort "dumb republican" or "dumb liberal" comments. I really hope as a platform we don't turn into the same toxic place as r/politics and actually take an iota of time to better understand opposing viewpoints before reading some super biased headline and start generalizing.
I think this is a reasonable take. There should be a shared burden proportional to each country's GDP. Although other countries have been delivering aid and while America is significantly outpacing the pack, they are also outpacing every other country on GDP. I'll be honest, I can't be bothered to crunch the math on how proportional this is, but if any countries are sitting things out and letting America do the heavy lifting, they should be handed the tithe dish with a pointed stare. We're all on this planet together, and I don't want to share a planet that lets these kind of atrocities happen.
Believe me, there are a lot of European countries who has aided Ukraine for a much bigger percentage of their GDP. And if you stop helping Ukraine, Russia would feel even more empowered. If they succeed in Ukraine who knows what other country they will try to invade.
When you go around demanding tribute like the empires of the past, don't be surprised when everyone denies your demands. We don't want an American Empire just as much as we don't want a Russian Empire.
It's funny how quickly Americans forget that their allies were in a war for over two decades that they were only involved in because the US was attacked. A war that was lost because of terrible leadership on the part of the US. Because securing the oil supply was more important than decisively defeating the movement that was complicit in an attack on the US.

If Russia wins the war- nothing changes. If Ukraine wins the war- nothing changes. The choice is easy!
No one really wins a war, they just gain control. Russia has not path to victory so that isn't even an option. They are dug in and unable to maneuver, but able to hide behind Russian SAMs. Once Ukrainian forces breach the defensive line Russian forces will collapse and the loss will be great. In the end NATO gains a foothold along the Black Sea and checks Russia into vital areas to the point it can never fight in Europe.

However, when the Dems did recently control the House, they managed to pass the infrastructure act, and the inflation reduction act, two huge pieces of domestic legislation.
When the Rs had the House, Senate, and White House from 2016-18, they refused to pass any kind of infrastructure act, despite that being one of the cornerstones of the Trump campaign. The only thing they really did was pass a tax cut for the wealthiest Americans that raised taxes in the middle class and increased the deficit.

It's neither "all" nor is it "money" - the Americans sent old military hardware for the most part, and the monetary value is barely a drop in the bucket compared just to their yearly military expenditure that they'd spend regardless. Actual monetary support is much more of a EU thing anyways.

Go look at where and how that money is being spent. I think you will find that the vast majority of it isn't leaving America. American businesses who already do business with the American government will do a little bit more, sending consumables and other assets to Ukraine. From an economic standpoint this is little different than a 10% increase in the American military budget, with the bonus of no expectation that it will be the new baseline going forward.
