Gotta stab a new drive into computer
Gotta stab a new drive into computer
I was shocked when I realized people pronounced it fs-tab lmao
127ReplyMentally I say Fs-tab because its filesystem table but if I ever say it out loud its f-stab
76ReplyMadness.
22ReplyNow that's insanity
8ReplyI'm calling the authorities. All of them.
3Reply
Oh shit. Does that stand for file system?
35ReplyFile system table
39Reply
I've never heard fs-tab in my life. Always f-stab. Hmmm...
27ReplyTIL for me
24ReplyCongrats for being one of today's lucky 10000! Sauce
4Reply
Was the other way around for me. F-stab just makes no sense.
8ReplyIdk its just how my brain decided to "chop up" the word if that makes sense
12ReplyBut it sure is memorable!
3Reply
g-unzip?
gun-zip
I used this command way before I used gzip so I didn't put it together.
104Replygun-zip just rolls off the tongue better. Two syllables instead of three? Yes, please.
47ReplyGun Zip - you literally shoot the gz file and it explodes like a piñata of files all over the dir you gun zipped it in.
10Reply
Ah yes, the file stabber, not to be confused with a file system tabulation, which it definitely is not.
81Reply 54ReplyFile stabber is a good name. :)
23Reply
... it never occurred to me that it could be fs tab
65ReplyI didn't figure it out until I started interacting with Cronta B.
3Reply
Go fsck yourself
55ReplyKnow what it means. Still call it f stab.
40ReplyF-stab easier to say and more fun to say
I'll die on this hill
33ReplyI'll defend this hill with you
10ReplyBy stabbing
7Reply
It is what its always been. F stab
31ReplyMental outlaw said that and it just stayed in my head ever since. Just like /etc is 'etsy'.
29ReplyOr SQL is Squeal
20ReplySacrilege!
10ReplySQL has always been Skull in my head. I think it is because I hated it when in college and associated it with dying inside.
7Reply 5ReplyNot sequel?
4Reply
Though I know it means "et cetera" when reading my brain has always "heard" that word - whether in the context of the word "etc." or the computing /etc - as pronounced "ettick." As in, "you need to edit your ettick f-stab file."
5ReplyHow else would you say /etc ?
4ReplyE-T-C
7Replyet cetera
5Reply
Shit, just say f-stab and enjoy someone "correcting" you, only to smile and continue to say it that way.
24ReplyIt took me a lot longer than I'd like to admit to realize that it was FS Tab.
24Replyf stab is real shit bro
fs tab is for losers.
real men say et-see, not etcetera.
18Replyi say ee-tee-see
1Replyet-see is the objectively correct version, ee-tee-see is the marginally more correct, but less funny version of it. And etcetera is just illegal, you should be jailed if you ever say that.
1Reply
TIL, I had no clue why we call this arbitrary important file a file stab, but fs tab makes sense now. F stab is more fun to say though (but has probably confused more than just me)
14ReplyI think I might be the third option: f'ss-tab.
Couldn't tell you where that's from. When I first ran Linux, the year didn't start with a 2.
12ReplyThis meme fscks
11Replyit's tune-2fs, right
5Replyand before that, get the drive name from the "black kid".
3Replynow where is the f-sck (spoken f-sack) gang?
2ReplyI always pronounce it "fezzik" like Andre the Giant's character from The Princess Bride.
1Reply
oh nice i'm not the only f-stabbing psycho
2ReplyIts FS Tab never knew
2ReplyI say FS-stab
