What’s one thing you wish more people noticed in everyday life?

Notice your default behaviors and take a moment to consider whether they serve you. They might, they might not. You may want to change them, you may not. Just be intentional about how you conduct yourself.
I with people noticed how much fucking space they take up.
All the fucking time I go to the shops or something and some oblivious dolt just stops walking, usually right in the middle of a fucking choke point.
I wish people would treat walking like they should treat driving; look around. Don't stop in the middle of a highway. If you need to stop, pull over. If you're walking slow, use the slow lane.
We need pedestrian traffic rules because this shit evidently is not intuitive to a lot of people.
The amount of people that arent aware of their space around them I have to drive around on a primarily bike lane on my commute is too high.
That the collapse is incoming and ignoring that fact is exacerbating it.
The natural world. Watch some birds or pay attention to the sounds of insects. See how many shades of green you can pick out from the leaves in the trees. Count the seconds between a flash of lightning and the subsequent thunder. Observe a lunar eclipse.
You'll realize this place is kind of neat if you take some time to appreciate it.
100%. Being on my computer so much, I can always appreciate simply being out in nature.
Kind of ironic, because while I'm doing that everyone around me is on their phones.
The rise of fascism.
Yeah, I was gonna say something about how politicians lie or how the media manipulates people. You were more succinct.
That I am available....

hmu bitches
Driving like a maniac saves you a negligible amount of time but puts others in disproportionate danger.
saves you a negligible amount of time but puts others in disproportionate danger.
So... Win-win?
Yup, I stopped worrying about extra lane changes and pushing the speed limit when I realized that it was literally saving me 1-2 minutes at best. Not worth the risk or the hassle.
Similar but really it was the difference between driving being stressful and relaxing. I used to be so angry every time someone did something wrong but now I leave them extra space knowing humans mess up all the time and I’m leaving space so it won’t affect me
Just a few hours ago I was almost run over by a person who was smoking while driving, thus distracted.
Just because they couldn't wait 5 minutes to smoke another cancer stick they almost kill a person and spend the rest of their good years in jail.
We’re standing on an unthinkably thin layer of viable grime coating a very small rock. We should all be constantly aware of how delicate this situation is and act accordingly, both in terms of how we treat each other and the shit we do to the rock.
Seconded. If the Earth were the size of a globe on your desk, he entire biosphere would be thinner than a piece of paper. We have filled the whole thing with our waste and toxins and we are destroying the very systems that we rely on to produce our food and air. If we do not start paying attention and taking steps, I sincerely believe that there will be a society ending global crisis in the next 2-3 decades.
That they're never going to watch the video they're taking on their cell phone at a sporting event, or concert, or political event, or whatever.
And just live in the moment instead.
Maybe for most.
I liked going back to watch some recordings.
My family gets upset about that. I nuked my socials back on January 1st 2020. I rarely take any photos. "We want to see the memories!". Well, I'm too busy making them to remember to record them
When I go to an event I give myself 2-3 pictures and then turn my phone off. I do generally end up printing them physically and keeping them.
That while they judge themselves by their best intentions, they invariably, and subconsciously judge others by their actions.
Once you realise most people are just trying to get through the day and most people aren't trying to make things worse for others, it's easier to forgive perceived slights, and that will make your own day better, and make you less likely to subconsciously slight someone else.
Ah, the Fundamental attribution error
That while they judge themselves by their best intentions, they invariably, and subconsciously judge others by their actions.
Damn. That's deep.
The high pitch noises from so many electronic items. Just as an example HP printers have a high pitch whine from their power supplies. I literally can’t be in the room with them. If more noticed less people would buy the garbage.
My monitor in standby mode emits a slight pitch noise when the power led blinks (why. Why Samsung did you think a blinking led is a good idea for a standby mode???).
I don’t think this is a situation of noticing or not noticing, I’m pretty sure most folks over a certain age literally cannot hear those frequencies. Then there’s the “lucky” ones of us that can still hear every little whine 🙃
CRTs used to drive me nuts. No matter where I was in the house, I could always tell if someone was watching TV
Had this problem at highscool, I could tell if the TV mounted in the room ceiling was on even if the screen was black. I had to ask the teachers to turn them off, they'd look at it and say "it is" and then we'd have an argument about not being able to hear anything. Eventually I would prove it by turning away, and having them randomly turn it off and on and I could tell them when it was off vs on.
Very frustrating, but I got old and now I can't hear shit
That no man is an island. And even the things you do "staying in your lane" affect those around you.
I'd also love for people to remember that breaking social contracts used to lead to duels and that's why you saw a dip in violence and breeches. But we stopped doing that and now violence and breeches of social contracts are happening more often.
And lastly I'd like all the people complaining about the biosphere in this thread to remember that they're Debbie Downers and that's why no one invites them to parties.
I'm joking about the last one. I agree with them, I just think the solution is getting off this planet as quickly as possible Oregon Trail style.
a dip in violence and breeches
Who dipped their breeches? Cheeky bums !
Lol.
Is that another joke at the end? There is no place as habitable as earth even with where we have it at today.
Exactly. Even as bad as we might still fuck the planet up, it'll still be easier to terraform actual Terra than fucking Mars.
…now violence and breeches of social contracts…
The latter? Yes. The former, most definitely not. Violence by all measures is at an all-time low, at least since the 1920s.
I wish people would realize how their bad behavior, how their greed, hurts other people.
the thing is, they DO realize it. what a lot of people don't realize is that people like that literally enjoy causing suffering in others. especially "other" others. telling these people that they're hurting you doesn't make them feel bad, it makes them feel GOOD
why? cycle of abuse? brainwashing? lack of education? most likely, all the above.
People rarely notice anything above their eyeline. It has to be directly in front of them or slightly down to be noticed.
Look UP people! There's a whole other world there.
There’s a great puzzle in the otherwise-tepid Chilla’s Art game, “The Radio Station,” that explores this.
Ties into my answer, sunlight through treetops.
That they are not alone. Everyone is having a day just like themselves so being considerate and respectful goes a long way to making it work for everyone.
There are also people that are not like you so you might not understand the behavior of everyone but it could be that that person is struggling the same way you are (when you are) but it might look different.
How they are being manipulated by so many things; advertisements, the media, influencers, social media posts, the entertainment industry. The biases aren't all bad but they definitely exist.
The big one for me is even worse, the way they were raised.
"I became my own person" no you fucking didn't, you still hold fundamental biases and function based on things you aren't even aware of.
Everything is programmed in, EVERYTHING.
You think eating bugs is gross? Programmed in.
You hate the number 4(parts of asia)? Programmed in.
You sing Happy Birthday at a party while serving a cake? Programmed in.
That when you turn off social media and stop getting your morning dose of "what should I worry about today" life becomes a lot easier.
That time is passing and we will all die. Are you living in earnest?
About once a week I'll space out and quietly panic for a minute when I remember about death.
Its coming. One day. Forever. No avoiding it. No way out.
That's a fair reaction, lol. I used to think I thought about death, then I started seeing greys... 😭
That making nature convenient for us (managed forests, etc.) is not the same as being nature friendly.
That other people can't just noclip through them.
Sunrises and sunsets.
nature in general.. from insects to birds to plant life. stop and smell the roses every once in a while. (and no, not all roses smell)
Took your advice now I'm covered in bee stings, my allergies are acting up and I'm no longer allowed near the pier.
The beautiy in mondane things. Not having your mind be occupied by something is so beautiful.
I'm Belgian. I'm working with and for muncipalities and the regionale government for years now and people trend to think public servants are lady and stubborn.
I see a lot of enthousiastic, driven, hard working public servants everyday. They often are mangled between political pressure and civilian pressure. There are rotten apples in the basket, for sure, but tge vast majority of public servants work hard en mean well.
