Octopus. Any kind. Duh.
Greenland sharks have the longest lifespan of any known vertebrate, estimated to be between 250 and 500 years. They are among the largest extant shark species, reaching a maximum confirmed length of 6.4 m (21 ft) long and weighing over 1,000 kg (2,200 lb). They reach sexual maturity at about 150 years of age, and their pups are born alive after an estimated gestation period of 8 to 18 years.
Absolutely everything about them is interesting. And as far as an entity, they are a fantastic role model. The world would be a much better place if we were all more like the Greenland Shark.
Imagine being pregnant for 18 years...
That is pretty cool
I wonder if they get cramps or sickness?
I don't have one, but now I'm thinking about it
The unexamined life is not worth living.
Then do orcas count? Because I just can't think of anything from the depths I find that interesting, things just move so slow down there
But I have orca facts for days
Yeah. I was torn on blood squid or just the straight up octopus or the angler fish but like idk and idc
What about the headless chicken fish?
Whats the scientific term for that oceangate thing that sploaded with all the billionaires?
Karma?
It's not a super creative or interesting answer, but I'd be lying if I said anything other than the giant squid. That's gotta be one of the wildest most alien things on our planet. Squid are already fascinatingly weird and now you're telling me there are squids the size of a horse that fight whales at the bottom of the ocean? Amazing. Please stay down at the bottom of the sea where I am not. I know the colossal squid is bigger, but it's cool that the giant one is probably the basis of some of our most enduring myths of sea monsters and the name "giant squid" just rolls off the tongue really well
What about the Colossal Squid
That's batfish insane.
That looks oddly familiar.
Siphonophores. Extremely alien looking colonial organisms. Iirc they are, by far, the longest known aquatic creatures.
Bruh siphonophores are so fascinating.
Idk if I have a fave deep sea creature, I’ll have to think about that.. but I’m rather fond of coconut crabs. They steal shit from people, and are enormous.
And maybe they killed Amelia Earhart!
Or at least stole her heart and ear
Dear God... Dont let the hexbears find out about this.
Oh no. Why is that?
whatthefuck.jpg
The Nautilus. I just think they are neat!
All hail Lord Helix!
Wow. Forgot about that.
All of them. There's so many.
Sunfish. Vampire squid. Blob fish. That terrifying worm that hides. Pistol shrimp.
It's a whole new world down there. Forget Mars!
Lung fish, black fish, alligator, Ice fish.
Armour head, hammer head, anaconda, flat head.
Manta ray, stingray, fang-tooth moray.
Goblin shark, grass carp, round-river-bat ray.
Noodle fish, hag fish, man o' war, lady fish.
Black eel, baby seal, sprat, koi, electric eel.
Lamprey, pejerey, yellow-edged moray.
Salmon shark, sleeper shark, featherback and eagle ray.
We didn’t start the fire
We didn't start the current!
It was always flowin'
Since the Earth's been slowin'
Cthulhu. Also the reason I refuse to go into the ocean. Hes in there somewhere and Im not chancing that encounter
Ohhhh dude, you're missing out ay, he is the sweetest dude ever, he took me on this awesome sea adventure, I met a Scottish lobster, a very camp sword fish, this weird little tribe of pygmy sea people and then I got to meet this awesome god like wallrus.
I would like to subscribe to your blog
Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn.
Dude, we all love him, but seriously swallow your food before you start talking.
Dunno if it counts as deep sea, but coelacanths =)
Deep enough to hide until roughly WWI
Oarfish give me a sense of dread in the pit of my stomach, they're so cool
Orca. They're just too damn cool, and they refuse to eat humans for some unknown reason. They, as a species, literally eat anything else that dares to enter their water including polar bears.
I personally maintain that some Orca took out an elderly or young human at some point, and the villagers responded by wiping out the entire pod of orca except for a traumatized survivor that told the rest of the orcas that they shouldn't ever eat the angry hairless monkeys, and the species has remembered for tens if not hundreds of thousands of years.
Bigfin squid
Most alien shit on our planet
Those are those monstrosities with the enormous tendril tentacles, right? They look fictional, Iove them
Angler Fish
I was team Angler Fish when I got here but damn, there are some good candidates mentioned!
Deep sea Jeff. Much like regular Jeff but he’s waaaaay down there.
Deep Sea Jeff might know Old Greg
Cuttlefish
Someday, cuttlefish will start the plan to take over the world in june 28th, 2025.
I like angler fish. Finding Memo had a huge effect on me, and I was well into my 20's when that came out lol.
This fish wish never cease to be cool
Goblin shark
Ez-pz
Goblins can be sharks?
Well, sharks be gobblin for sure.
No love for iron snails?
Cephalopods of all kinds are fabulous, but it's a crime I haven't seen siphonophores here.
Those creatures that live around high temperatures hydrothermal vents, they don't get their energy from the sun!
Gulper eel said, "I can't see shit down here. So I'm just going to swim around with my mouth open, and I'm just going to call whatever gets in there lunch."
To which evolution replied, "Bet?"
Shrimp and Lobster
All octopodes are good octopodes.
I only recently learned about the Dumbo Octopus and I think it is adorable!
Sea Turtle!
Leatherback sea turtles are hella neat! Deepest diving of all of the turtles. Absolutely fearless.
Bone-eating tube-worms!
The pacific tree octopus; of course.
Whale Sharks. Just look at them. Not a thought behind those eyes. And they're polka dot patterned. Wobbegongs are pretty great too. They have the cool name, and much of the pluses of the Whale shark. They also have thoughtless eyes.
OP is into hentai confirmed
Dunno if you'd consider them deep sea, but flamboyant cuttlefish are pretty nifty.
giant isopods are pretty rad
i don't really care about animals... i know like three different fish and that's it as far as sea creatures go. i will still listen to people talk about them though.
Orca care about you. They are the only apex predator that refuses to hunt or eat humans. We are unique there too. They will eat other monkeys and apes that they rarely happen upon, and they eat polar bears and other bears whenever they can catch them.
Last time an orca even bit a human in nature, the human was asking for it. They were poking the orca with a blunted harpoon. The orca snapped, bit their arm, realized what it just bit and let go before it severed the dude's arm. Then all the orcas in the area left for a decade or so. This was back in the late 1800s on the Pacific coast of Alaska.
that's so cool!
No, that's how you engage with people when you're six years old.
This comment has "I'm not a kid anymore, I'm 17 years old" energy
Which one is yours, then? :)
