Easy solution: Don't be a dick to regular humans and human rights and the Anti-American Sentiment will fade.
You were always the front-runner for democracy and peace, but making a 180 since january all of a sudden is, yeah, not chillaxt at all... Youknow?
LW Americans love anti-Americanism yet the other day people were really trying to convince me that being anti-China as an Indian is basically a war crime
gotta watch out for those .ml peeps ya know
MAYBE if some of the brands is being pro-nazi, supporting trump. duh
Wow its like US culture was only held up by goodwill from USAID, NIH, and weapons donations to ukraine and it turns out people think the US is otherwise a bunch of billionaire sex perverts and their wage slaves when you dismantle those things.
Well, electing a strongman politician while abolishing goodwill programs that project soft power tends to have consequences for your economy. Mostly negative consequences, but hey, at least you get to wear a red ballcap that says your country is the bestest ever and all other countries suck mud, right?
So you're telling me that if we make the world hate us, they might send us less money?
I have been living and working in Asia for over 20 years. The anti-American sentiment is the highest now compared to any other time in the last 20 years.
Oh well
lol didn’t McDonald’s host their own orange clown when he was campaigning? They and their nasty dried burgers can fuck off.
Is there an up to date list of brands and companies that supported trump/maga?
I tried using publicsquare just now to search again but it seems like they took away the ability to do so, probably to stop people from boycotting fascism. And other searches don’t really bring up such lists (mostly just articles talking about the most prominent companies that are well known to have bent the knee).
I'm not making any such distinction... I just go "if brand is USA, then buy = no"
I think that Coke know that, that's because in Mexico there is a logo
in every coke.A number of companies have noted this trend. David Gibbs, CEO of KFC and Taco Bell parent Yum Brands, told analysts in late April that the company was closely monitoring the issue and its impact on consumer behavior, but added that there had not been an observable impact on its sales.
I'm surprised its mild enough for them to claim this so far.
I know the Canadians are pissed, but are all y'all's peers on other continents mostly... indifferent? I guess it's egotistical to assume people generally follow American news, but some of it really seems hard to ignore.
The effects are definitely felt in Germany as well. It started (or can so far be traceable in the news) with Tesla. Not sure about any other sentiment, but I genuinely wouldn't be surprised. This is the first time there's news about things other than Tesla.
But yeah, I personally started going more for European products and that is also the policies pushed by some European countries atm. It might be a coincidence, but I switched away from MAMMA where I could (with Win10 support running out, I went over to Linux, I. e.; or I switched my default browser away from chrome and search engine away from google).
Here in Europe I know plenty of people who avoid American stuff where possible.
I don't think most of the masses in Europe know or give a shit about what happens in the US. Maybe the name of the president, or when the US fucks up some country, like Irak or Afghanistan.
Now they sort of do, because of the world wide impact of Trump's psychotic world commerce antics, or Russia and Ukraine, which are close enough, which may impact them directly or close enough.
I think there is an image of Europe in the US of a place where people are generally cultured, which is not really the case. Hicks are everywhere. Millions in Europe are workers in industry and agriculture or fishing, and care jack shit about what happens outside their sphere.
Europeans do have a higher awareness of what happens outside their borders mainly because they have been invading each other for millenia, so international relations are culturally important, but that's about it. Football is way more important than international news for the majority of Europeans. Bread and circuses.
The news bulletins are filled with news out of the USA. We are very aware of what's happening in that country, because of our history with fascism with our neighbour Germany.
Football is also going to be affected btw, with the Worldcup being held in Canada, Mexico and tourism-very-unfriendly USA
lots of folks in my circle also boycotting american products and services. in the cross hairs here are Amazon, Google, any american food, booze, clothing, cars, etc. Most in my circle dont watch american news. its depressing to see a country descend into third world status so quickly
My aim is currently at big tech and food conglomerates specifically. I still have a soft spot for small businesses and B Corps from the US. If they go out of business, then all that's left are the corpos.
I feel like the people who would avoid those brands were already avoiding them because they're crap. A lot of people don't care, don't understand, or generally support trump. ~ England
All the gigantic tech corpos I have to deal with are American. I was having anti american sentiments before the orange dictator, but they sure are at an all time high.
I'm high and I'm craving Doritos. But I can't have Doritos because they're American (yeah, yeah, technically I can but I won't). Fuck Trump for taking away my Doriotos. At least I have Lays
Leave the Lays on the shelves too, that's as American as Doritos. same mother company. Sadly Croky is also American (Pepsico is the owner of that brand)
Hawkin’s cheesies
Lays are American as well, sorry to burst your bubble.
But both of those are Frito-Lay (and Pepsi is their parent)
If you're Canadian get old dutch. Their chips are better anyways.
Their sour cream and onion chips are better than most.
Seriously, who keeps doritos out of the hands of stoners?! It just isn't right
Seems cruel.
Just buy some local corn chips and sprinkle cheese powder and msg on em.
What a perfect internet comment.
Aren't some flavors made in canada? Or cause the parent company is Yankee?
If they only hadn't thrown money at Trumps campaign. And what are they doing now? Kissing his ass and throwing money at him to get on his good side. Totally ignoring that he has none.
Good, fuck the child rapist trump and his fascist regime.
Good, fuck America in general. The world absolutely needs less reliance on central powers like America and China and hopefully everybody can work on improving.
The American't boycotting will continue until they have their own little-engine-that-could revolution, kick the fascism to the curb, and adjust the perception of their own importance and contributions to the world.
It might even last a little longer than all that. The message must be understood.
I will personally never set foot in that cursed country again in my life.
Same same. Absolutely shitty culture and they deserve everything they voted for.
How can this be. Being Nazi scum has blowback?
This is why that German waffle chain, Luftwaffles went broke in the 1940s.
Sensiblechuckle.gif
To be honest a lot of German brands collaborated or directly worked with the Nazis are still in business today like most german car manufacturers for example. Dr. Oetker comes to mind also.
Not only German brands, there are plenty of US corporations that built and supported the German war machine. There were production sites in Germany that were not bombed because they were insured by US companies. WTF!
VW was literally founded on Hitler's orders.
Major US brands are a good chunk of the reason behind rising anti-American sentiment.
AIPAC is the biggest right now. We need to ban and deport the Israeli lobby.
Those people are ANTI SEMETIC! Wait wrong Country. Those people need to be SUED!
They hate freedom!
Though that's overused and doesn't sound dramatic enough. Hm This idea needs new wrapping
They're just jealous of our freedom. Our freedom to ban books.
"Wow, I can't believe we backed a fascist shitwit and now people hate us????"
Corporations never learn. Literally. They're incapable of learning.
Shareholders do, buy while backing fascist, sell just before launching a “fascism actually back mmkay” message.
Personally i hated america since iraq war. If i knew younger about other terrible stop the united snakes did i would hate it sooner
Those leopards are getting fat n sassy now
Yeah well maybe they shouldn't have blindly followed and sucked up to Trump either they come out completely apposing him (which is not likely to happen) or I will not buy any products from them
For profit corporations will always support fascism given the chance. It's no coincidence Mussolini called it corporatism.
maybe they could try donating more money to him
maybe they can shower him with his obsession with more gold related paraphenelia.
Isn't managing brand awareness and reputation... you know, a fundamental part of running basically just most businesses with large consumer bases?
Gee, its almost like these people with 'executive' or 'president' or 'head' somewhere in their job titles are all fucking morons who are bad at their jobs, by their own description and metrics they use to describe them!
We need Luigi #2 and #3 and so on. That is the way.
Maybe other countries should not have trusted america since it's first illegal war
"Anti-American business upset to find out that after becoming (buying) the face of America people still don't fuckin like them."
You can't convince me that AI isn't writing these dogshit headlines anymore. These are so formulaic predictable and middle of the road normalization that it makes me physically react.
Its newsweek. Its a tabloid and shouldn't be here.
I boycott as much as i can from the US and Israel
I join all others in expressing utter shock, amazement, disbelief and outrage that it took the morons until now to realise what 90% of the Earths population predicted came to be.
Fun fact: there are Canadian companies/products named after American cities: New York Fries, Boston Pizza, Philadelphia cream cheese. These companies must be kicking themselves now
They all have prominent signs or info in menu basically denouncing any connection to the US now lol.
Are you sure Philadelphia cream cheese is Canadian? I googled search on ecosia for Philadelphia cream cheese and it seems to be an American brand owned by Kraft Heinz and Mondelez.
As they say: Welcome to the find out phase!
they think there will be no consequences if they FELLATED trump.
Good. Don't buy anything from Nazis!
Not even Trump crypto? :(
Only if you want to buy regulations, laws, or any other favors. However, I assume that's not exactly cheap.
Because of the global trade war? Or because of their implication in aiding Israel in committing genocide? Or both?
Please don't stop there. We need people to witness this and do like the boycotters abroad are doing.
It's about bullying and exploiting other countries with really high tariffs.
It's about our full support of Israel while they commit a genocide.
It's about our failure to uphold the deal we made with Ukraine to get them to agree to nuclear disarmament.
It's about deciding not to honor contracts made during the last administration, saying that they no longer apply, and allowing the people who benefited from USAID abroad (and tons of federal, formerly dependable paychecks at home) to fall off without even an acknowledgement of wrongdoing, while yelling that anybody who isn't hand-over-fist greedy isn't American.
I've been saying this since he first started campaigning: STOP GIVING HIM STUFF. HE GOES AWAY WHEN YOU STOP LISTENING TO HIM AND GIVING HIM YOUR STUFF.
This. Stop feeding the troll, Murca.
Another reason is because America is lowering their food safety standards and food from them may kill you
And eliminating vaccine requirements. I guess we will bring back iron lungs too.
Both, plus the sabre rattling about Greenland and Panama, plus the BS with Visa/Mastercard and resistance to the idea of other countries trying to circumvent reliance on American banking, plus probably a bunch of other stuff I'm forgetting or that is too region specific to mention here.
It's not either. Public opinion on those topics have not really shifted.
It's because of US unreliability. Both in an economic and diplomatic sense.
Why would I buy things from a toxic and volatile economy? Why would I stake my future on the unreliability of a republican government?
The only things still holding the illusion of strength together is the AI bubble and the hope that things will be better when Trump dies.
Multiple reasons including those two
Yes.
Get behind ranked choice voting then. It is in everybody's interest to get out of the doom spiral
30 some states have votor sponsored ballot initiatives, and most of those ammend state constitutions so it takes supermajorities of often 3/4 of state lawmakers to change. Some red ones increased pass threshold to 60 pc though.
But all those states need ranked choice voting, and giving the drawing of districts to an independant body to ungerrymander. Also voting rights laws. Aforementioned states increasing pass threshold on referendums and making it harder to get on ballot with signatures could themselves be changed back with a referendum.
Even red states these issues play. There are other ways polits can jam these up though, election commissions that approve initiative after signature verification have been known to improperly throw out them for wording, as michigan's did on mj legalization 2x before one got through. Or forbidding wolf hunt by vote lawmakers just passed it again coupled with a budget component making it un referendumable.
STOP SUPPORTING GENOCIDE
yeah... it's totally the genocide.
Done and done.
Can't un-ring that bell, even if you chicken out
I wonder why
Awwww… I hope they don’t lose any customers. Or profits. Or sleep.
There are always better options. Get good.
I don't support fascist regimes, I have completely changed the way I do my groceries. and saving money in the process.
