Steam adds "Dwarf" as a tag
Steam adds "Dwarf" as a tag
Steam is the ultimate destination for playing, discussing, and creating games.
They went from, ‘That’s stupid. We're not doing that," to "That’s stupid but okay," so fucking fast.
178Reply"That's stupid but okay" is a very valve thing.
112ReplyI've played TF2.
Their view of "what? No that's silly" struck me as very odd.

I get it from their perspective, featuring dwarves in a game doesn’t really help others find similar games in the same vein. On the other hand, they have a tag for pirates and Black Flag differs quite a bit from puzzle pirates.
43ReplyAlright, I'll ask the obvious follow-up question: do they have a tag for ninjas?
12Reply
Because the team behind Deep Rock Galactic asked their community to start using it to show demand. And apparently they listened.
26ReplyAnd Dwarf Fortress

It was a fake "controversy" to draw sales and engagement.
21ReplyBut by pretending to make scene they just gave themselves and two other companies a shit ton of marketing and people talking about it.
Its always about the money, they found a way to make a few dollars out of nothing.
18ReplyI mean, that's how it should be.
If a mass amount of people want a trivial thing that doesn't harm anybody else, even if you disagree with it, why not?
9ReplyThis is the original meaning of the phrase "the customer is always right". It's been warped by "karen" types into a weapon used against minimum wage workers, but what it's supposed to mean is "the customer is always right in matters of taste". Meaning if a company doesn't want to do something because they think it's dumb but the demographic says "I like that" then the customer is right, and the company should do it. I know the dwarf tag isn't about money, but it's still a matter of listening to the customers on the platform.
2ReplyDisagree but only on a technicality.
Ideally, they could skip the first part.
2Reply
Lmao that happened so fast. Deep rock galactic and dwarf fortress teaming up really worked!
95ReplySteam gets free publicity (not that it's really needed) and it all cost them was 5 letters.

Rock and Stone
85ReplyWe fight for rock and stone!
18ReplyDid I hear a Rock and Stone!?
11Reply

7ReplyROCK AND STONE BROTHER
2Reply
See? Valve does listen to its customers.
63ReplyPermanently Deleted
54ReplyHow many dwarf games could there really be?
Is there an entire genre that I'm unaware of?
21ReplyMore than you would think...
The biggest two that pop into my head are Deep Rock Galactic, and Dwarf Fortress.
Both amazing games btw
28ReplyUm... Mario...

Seems like a short headline.
47ReplyShort headline, but goes deep.
19ReplyToo deep, some might say 🔥
7Reply
Strike the earth
41ReplySo basically this means there is a significant demographic of gamers that will play a game largely because it features dwarves?
Im sorry, I missed all the fuss about this.
I guess look forward to Dwarf Cart Racing and Dwarf Chess and Dwarf MilSim Tac Squad.
I was gonna say A Dwarf And His Horse but uh... well maybe it would work with dwarf horses. Thats probably got some appeal.
34ReplyA Dwarf MilSim Tac Squad would be nice
15ReplySome Warhammer dev is taking this to a meeting right now.
6ReplyIt would simplify the control scheme somewhat as there would basically be no point whatsoever for a dwarf to crouch. Prone might make sense?
Can dwarves lean left and right around corners without going off balance and just falling over?
4ReplyThe idea of a a Ready or Not styled game with the comedy and tone of Deep Rock would be killer.
3Reply
A dwarf and his horse would rapidly become a dwarf and his lifetime supply of jerky
7ReplyI hope to god you are not implying that the dwarf strips meat off the horse when its so cold the horse cannot feel it, ala valley forge us army survival tactics.
2Reply
I would lol
3ReplyAbsolutely. I love dwarves
2Reply
Big win for gamers
26ReplyOkay... Thanks for the update.
20ReplyLOL right? Like.. neat. Cool that it finally got this random tag... Seems like a slow news cycle for gaming.
4Reply
OOTL: Can I get a summary?
11Replythey rejected the request of Deep Rock Galatic and Dwarf Fortress to add a dwarf tag, the two teamed up on a co marketing campaign to get the decision reversed, Steam acquiesced.
36ReplyWhat next? A tag for elves? A tag for tieflings? What a slippery slope!
/s
16Reply
Huzzah!
6ReplyRock and Stone!
6ReplyRock and stone to the bone.
3Reply
I think they could have solved a twitter protest buy going with dwarves instead.
6ReplyWE DID IT!!!
4Replylmao that was so fast. Lets goooooo
4ReplyYet Smashmouth never ate the eggs...
3ReplyOkay.
1ReplySlippery slope guys. Soon we have tags like "windy" or "landscape" or "table". :)
I think they did it because "let's play along" but it's still not a smart move. I guess they had to go along.
