Is snapchat still a thing? Never used that but I thought from screenshots and memes that tiktok killed it (never used that either)

  I never understood that. Apparently they use it as a primary way of messaging each other? At least that's what younger relatives have told me. I've tried to have them explain what makes the app designed to hide/delete stuff after it's been read better for communication, but so far haven't gotten an explanation I could make any sense of.

  Tbh I only know 2-3 people who use it actively. Most use instagram DMs. I like snapchat for the face filters though

- Nobody I know my age (early 30s) uses it any more. Instagram stories killed Snapchat stories. I don't know if Instagram has a disappearing messages option though.

Well if this happens I'm getting rid of it. Yeah I'm older and I use it. But it's great for the girlfriend and I to quickly send messages and nsfw things. Now that I think about it, I only use it because of her.

These ads will be the last straw. The stupid AI chatbot forces itself to the top of your list already, and above that, they throw in a stupid Snapchat+ ad! Oh yeah, in order to delete the AI bot as a friend, you need Snapchat+....

Are they stupid? In fairness, I don't know how they're making any money at all. I've never seen anyone interact with the discover feed and therefore see ads. There really isn't a way to monetize Snapchat without killing it off.

Remember Snapchat had the cool feature of showing you "today, X years ago"?
Why did they fuck that up and you get random collages now. It was such a great feature that they have now ruined

- Isn't that what Google photos does too? I'm slowly degoogling but I must say, I do enjoy that feature. It kinda gives purpose to the random pictures one takes.

I know social media shows us stuff it wants us to see, but Snapchat shows the absolute worst shit, it has never once shown me something I'd ever want to see. It really is the most ratchet app.

Honestly Snapchat was fun, but what killed it for me was when it started randomly adding/following users when my account was inactive for a while. So I’d start getting notifications about xyz posting, and I don’t even know who they are

I’m convinced they’re doing this to pad user activity

- telegram has “secret chats” that let you set a self destruct timer for all messages sent in those chats. i don’t know of many other alternatives. and even telegram isn’t a drop in replacement, but it could work, depending on what you’re looking for
