Why is Trump so fixated on Greenland? Nuuk has less than 20,000 residents and the island is only really known for its fishing industry.

Also I'm sure Denmark are part of NATO already so there's already no additional military importance from buying the land.

How much do native Greenlanders like being governed by Denmark, would they conceivably be better off as US citizens? Obviously self governance is best but could they defend their own territory in that case. I think there's a case to be made for this idea and few Americans regret having Alaska as part of the union.

- Last time this idea was brought up, the Danish response was clear: Denmark can't sell Greenland because it's not ours to sell. The Greenlanders rejected the offer.
  
  There's been decades of collaboration between Denmark and Greenland on establishing autonomy and independence of Greenland. It appears they are not interested in becoming integrated into a different state, but would rather continue that process.
  
  But indeed, it's up to the people of Greenland.
