What's your guilty pleasure?
What's your guilty pleasure?
Maybe it's a show, a game, food, a song, or even a book, but what's that thing you love even though you know it's objectively bad?

Okay I had to actually switch accounts before replying, ha ha. My absolute favorite guilty pleasure is reading and writing m/m paranormal smut. Absolutely love it. I hoover that shit up.
Family knows I write urban fantasy, so when I started writing m/m smut, I had to get a pen name. They think I stopped writing after two books-- but that's not accurate since I have three books under the pen name. The middle book is so smutty that I would be horrified for anyone to connect me to it but it is a damn fine piece of writing. Damn fine. So full of absolutely animalistic descriptive sex, it's frankly amazing I managed to fit a plot in there somewhere.
So, writing and reading smutty books. 😚
Sitting quietly in a room for hours at a time literally doing nothing. I once got curious and just sat in my living room for around 10h straight because I wanted to see what my living room and neighborhood was like at night. Im talking no phone, TV, or anything else just me sitting alone staring off chilling.
Fun fact: I average 3 cars an hour over night in my neighborhood and we aren't really a busy neighborhood off a couple side streets too. Some of the cars leave then come back a few minutes later. Probably drug dealers or something.
This sounds like the dream day of almost every older guy (like 50+) I know.
Pure. Peace. And. Quiet.
You should try a float tank!
No reason for guilt there, that sounds like pure relaxation.
I am 100% too old for it, but I absolutely LOVE the preschool level cartoon Franklin and to a slightly lesser extent the 2011( ? ) 3D CG reboot Franklin and Friends. I used to have one of the edutainment games ( the clubhouse one ) and the domino set as a kid and loved them.
Now, at some point if I ever live alone or at least not with family, want to get all of the PC edutainment games, the domino set, and the original books that weren't based off of an episode of the show. I will someday manifest my inner child's dream!
Edit:
And if there ever comes a time where there is an official box set of every episode out there in the original English dub, I would trample kids at the store to get it.
What things do you love about it?
For starters, as a furry, the anthro characters, love their simple designs. I also love how wholesome it is the majority of the time. Also how chill the show is, especially the backgrounds.
I also like, to varying degrees, most of the songs from the films and official CD ( which I own a copy of ). I personally love the song in the beginning of Back To School With Franklin because I think more people should live life by the lyric "sometimes doing nothing can be such a busy thing".
I had none.
If it brings me pleasure I feel no guilt.
Crappy romance movies. Like the crappy Christmas ones on hallmark or Netflix
I'm weird. Playing nsfw games while trying to avoid nsfw. Some of them have cool stories and not shying away from mature themes make them much more enjoyable. And some are simply way too expansive sims, I swear that horny is the second biggest motivator for building life sims after dwarfs.
I'm 49 years old and every once in a while I still say "Fuck it....for supper tonight I'm having a giant ass bowl of Lucky Charms cereal"
There is nothing objectively bad about this! Now eating cereal without milk, that's weird (and what I'm doing right now.
43 and it's Cap'n Crunch for me. It happens once every few years and I always regret it.
Me too. That eventual sugar crash gets worse the older I get,
Lidl sells these breaded camembert. You stick them in the oven until their top lifts, then you eat them with red whortleberry jam. Its basically half a kilo of molten cheese and jam, but it's great
I did not know about whortleberries.
The flavor is similar to schnozzberry.
Typing random numbers into nhentai to see what absolutely depraved shit is out there.
Makes a great drinking game in the right group of people.
My incognito Bing history would fit the bill.
Kanye is a terrible person and the lyrics are typical drivel… but god damn do I love the Daft Punk remix in “Stronger”. It distills the pure glitchtard joy of what daft punk did.
I feel you. Gold Digger is my jam.
you mean other than jorkin it?
Food. Good god. I've been right on the line between obese and overweight for most of my life, but there was a brief period like 5ish years ago where I finally dropped like 30 pounds and got myself looking the way I wanted.
Then I started living on my own, and while that's been really good for me in a lot of ways... oh boy, I went hog wild. I've always enjoyed cooking and baking, but not having to worry about hijacking the kitchen (or anyone stealing the fruits of my labor!) meant I was making all kinds of cookies, brownies, babka, breads, bagels, I've made croissants from scratch a couple times... eventually I memorized my brownie recipe and I got into the habit of, several times a week, making a "single serve" brownie by just throwing everything into one little oven safe bowl (sorta like these) and then eating the whole damn thing.
Last week I made enough dough for 3 pizzas, so I did one basically normal, and then inspiration struck. For the second one I made a southern-style gravy and used that instead of tomato sauce, and then the last one turned into a dessert pizza. Made a chocolate sauce out of cacao powder, melted butter, sugar, and honey, and then topped it with shredded coconut. Holy fuck, so easy, so tasty, both fresh out the oven and cold out the fridge. Highly recommend. But anyway I ate all 3 pizzas in 2 days.
Surprisingly enough my weight's actually been trending downward this month. Maybe if I'm lucky it won't have to be such a guilty pleasure for too much longer lol
edit, I keep forgetting to take pics of the stuff I make or else I'd post about it, but at least I did take this one of the dessert pizza
Alcohol, but I've cut back immensely in the past 4 years. Turns out you can't drink like you did in your 20s when you're in your 40s and expect to feel fine the next morning. I think I'm almost at the point where I'm gonna give it up entirely, or just have it on special occasions, because it's just not worth it anymore.
I was in the exact same boat 2 years ago. I don’t know what happened exactly, but I just decided it was time to stop. At the time it was to see how it went, and how long I could go without it. And I honestly never looked back. I feel tons better, and I’m sure I’m overall much healthier as well. And I don’t miss it or crave it anymore, except very occasionally when work gets to the “You have got be shitting me right now” level, and even then it’s not a strong craving and I just ignore it until it goes away. And the $avings!
I'm in my 40s and could use a motivator to slow down a bit... Maybe I just hydrate enough to feel fine the next day lol
Can't say guilt is in any way associated with it but soda is my smokes. Have quit a few times and all it takes is some stress and im back.
A can of Pringle chips
I secretly buy about three or four cans whenever we go grocery shopping. My wife's unwell so I have to do everything at the grocery store and most times I'm on my own. But in just about every trip I buy the chips and sneak them around the house and eat them myself. I love the stuff and my favorite is BBQ.
Sometimes I feel like some alcoholic sneaking bottles around the house. I have a can in the basement, one in the garage and always one by my desk. I keep track of them all to keep them fresh and renewed.
I have a problem don't I? ... yeah I know ... but I love it.
They’re absolute garbage, and they’re amazing.
(I also do this with the purple Super Stack chips from my local Dollar Tree.)
Same here ... I feel like an addict .... if I can't find Pringles, I will go for the no name stuff in a tube ... they taste about the same but Pringles is like gourmet junk food in a can to me.
I had a crush with whom I have never talked to but I still fantasize about them time to time creating scenarios in my head which will never happen. It's not healthy I know but makes me feel good feelings.
at least its cheap. not the worst addiction.
Nothing wrong with fantasies unless they're harming your day-to-day life.
Lock in lil bro💀💔🥀
Feeling good feelings is healthy. You do you.
Ghost Adventures. I watch an episode before bed like 3 times a week. I used to work in tv production and know it’s not real. But in my experience, more than the other ghost shows, it weaves in some cute tricks along with obvious ones. Something about that mix keeps me just the right amount of entertained but relaxed in a way that helps me fall asleep.
To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women!
Either that, or a nice cup of earl grey tea.
Nice cup of tea:
"And hear the lamentation of their women."
Maybe not objectively bad, but mine is '60s music. Even the super sugary pop crap (well, minus bubblegum). Even though a lot of the lyrics haven't aged well. I just love it. SiriusXM's '60s Gold stays on my radio dial!
Also, I love being in the sun. I'm super pale and I've had to have a bunch of things removed and biopsied by the dermatologist, so now I load up on sunblock and avoid the sun like a vampire, which makes me sad. I know it's bad for me but I really do love the sun 💛
I've been on a break for some months now, but weed. It's the only thing I really like that I feel somewhat guilty about doing. As much as others might disagree, I don't feel guilty for enjoying frozen pizza and cheap kebabs, or listening to girly 90s pop, or constantly using emojis to better express myself. 🤷
In an age of text-based communication dominance, especially at work, and especially remote work, I feel that emoji use is vital to at least attempt to avoid miscommunications. I do not understand people who do not use them, often literally, and they make me uncomfortable.
Walking around town with a plug in.
How is this one my 100th upvote to you
So, real talk...you ever cough or sneeze and rocket it out onto the sidewalk?
Only when it's getting time to go up a size.
A good plug, like an NJoy PurePlug, will never fall out if you cough or sneeze. You have to actively want to remove it.
Genshin Impact.
Yes it's a crappy casino for horny teenage boys, but damn if they didn't put a surprisingly decent game on the ground floor of said casino.
Oat milk lattes. I can't afford my own machine yet, so I have to pay someone else to do it. Dear god I'm poor, but it scratches a tiny itch that nothing else does.
The 8-shaped coffee maker is like 30 bucks and most Italians make their coffee with it. Apparently it makes a very decent espresso. Adding it to the oatmilk, voila presto!
Unsteamed oatmilk? BLEH. DESPICABLE!
negative stereotypes about the French
Watching romantic K-dramas. We start them together with my wife, because I would never choose to watch one alone, after a couple of episodes it usually slows down and she falls asleep for most of the rest of the series, and I watch it alone while she is sleeping on the sofa. Once she wakes up in between or at the end I summarize what she misses for her ^^
Cigars. I only smoke one every month or two, but obviously tobacco isn't good for you. That acknowledgement aside, I really enjoy them, and have a humidor full of probably $2000 worth of cigars, many aged a couple years.
I recently had a cigar dream and I’ve kinda been craving one. I don’t wanna be outside, don’t have a garage, and don’t want to smoke them indoors, though. My last ones I can remember smoking were a Romeo y Julieta and a Monte Cristo, but those were like a decade ago.
Beer.
I enjoy getting buzzed, but hard liquor or cocktails is never my first choice. Beer will always be my favorite.
If it weren’t for beer, I would be in great shape, look better, and sleep better. I don’t care.
I drink Keystone almost every day. Can't stand anything stronger. Also, I don't trust myself on anything stronger.
I love all kinds of unhealthy food and drink. Cookies, chocolate, cake, cocktails, coffee (it's not necessarily unhealthy, but I get the runs) ... and with sweets, I also have a hard time pacing myself, pretty much the only way to avoid overeating is to not buy any at all.
Songs, books or movies to feel guilty about ... maybe all the sketchy anime I watch. e.g. monogatari series is definitely pedo shit, but it's also so damn well-made, and a lot of the pedo shit is pretty funny.
Peaches. I can't eat them without having a seriously bad time for a day or two. Still, if I see a Georgia peach that's soft I usually just deal with the consequences later. They've been the hardest fruit to give up.
Here is your theme song.
Lol, a dream worth living... unfortunately, I'd be dead in short order.
I hope to stumble upon the peaches of immortality over day...
National Treasure is a mediocre movie that I will always watch the shit out of. It is the perfect balance of ridiculousness and action, and just always brings me joy.
Nicholas Cage is a National Treasure.
Haribo gummies. They give me awful reflux if I eat a bunch (which of course I always do), and they’re probably messing up my A1C royally also.
But goddamn.
The Amazing Spiderman 2 has a terrible script but I enjoy it. I think it's cause I like the actors and their chemistry
that’s fair! I also enjoy the soundtrack
I like the part where it plays "Gone Gone Gone"
Listening reggaeton.
There was a time when I completely despised the genre, more for my environment than for my own initiative; but now I can see the taste in it.
my favorite album is "Los Extraterrestre" by Wisin & Yandel.
💖 Wisin & Yandel
Romantic movies. I love me a good romance movie or TV series where the characters go through all these tribulations, drama, or some sort of stressful situation but in the end they end up together and get married. I don't think anyone I know knows this, but I've cried to a few of them and I'm not a cryer. I love me a nice, happy, romantic ending.
I have cptsd so everything is guilty.
Real Housewives of Anywhere
Zuckerberg budget saver monster pops, cherry pineapple frozen treats.
He is truly behind anything that is bad for you.
The movie White Chicks - Personally can't get enough of how offensive it is to literally everyone
