Goodbye foreign investments
Goodbye foreign investments
Goodbye foreign investments
Is there any evidence that Qatar has formally pulled its pledge of $1+ trillion investment in the US? I couldn't find anything to support that.
I realize it isn't technically foreign "investment", but international tourism to the USA is way down, which is having a huge impact on all the areas that rely on tourists.
https://www.cnn.com/2025/08/31/travel/international-tourist-decline-united-states
That article is sobering. Bolding is mine.
...analytics company Tourism Economics... updated outlook now estimates an 8.2% decline, led by about one quarter fewer Canadians visiting the US from January to July, compared to the same period in 2024.
The World Travel and Tourism Council, a global tourism advocacy organization, projected in May that the United States will lose $12.5 billion in international visitor spending in 2025, the only country out of 184 economies the council analyzed that will see a decline this year.
Who in their right mind would go to the US? The only reason dfat (Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trace) is still categorising the USA as "Exercise normal safety precautions" is because of geopolitics.
It's wild that we rank it above other destinations.
I would choose China over the US to travel to, any day of the week, and have multiple times.
China is massively authoritarian, no doubt, but they're not going through random travellers social media posts. Even if you've posted negative things about China (watch Polymatter's video on Chinese censorship, if you're curious)
I mean, unless you're actively and famously criticising the Chinese government. In which case, probably don't travel there and be accused of being a spy or something 😅
In any case, I feel much, much safer travelling to China than the US.
as a european i can confirm almost everyone from all political spectrums says itms stupid to travel to the us atm
I love to see this shit. I have longed for the downfall of this shithole after I saw how people acted after 9/11. The racism, the jingoism, all of it. Then the Iraq War, Patriot Act, Drone Strikes, NSA spying, Afghanistan, Libya, etc.
I truly madly deeply hate this country. And the further it falls into collapse and obscurity the better. We are the ones with 800 bases around the world. We are the ones invading sovereign nations on a whim. We wielded economic sanctions with such abandon that we necessitated the creation of a parallel international economic structure in BRICS. We're directly responsible for that. We are the ones who have been blowing up schools and hospitals not for just the last 2 years but for more than 20. We are currently and have been the bad guys for at least since the Korean War.
We should be a pariah state. We should have no financial or international relevance. Treat us the way you treat North Korea. This country deserves that and then some.
Shun and exclude us. Make deals amongst yourselves. Take care of your own house and enjoy the schadenfreude of watching ours collapse. I'm gonna enjoy it and I'm stuck having to live through it. I can't afford to leave.
who let this nut case out of his padded room?
The older I get, the more I realize.
Doomers are bad people.
And yet the stock market keeps breaking all time highs
Insane we just allowed a Russian asset to take power and break anything he can touch.
If America still exists in 50 years people will look back at this time like we do with Nazi Germany today
50 years? Try now today. That's how I see you guys.
A nazi regime with mostly a population that is either weak, stupid, or maliciously complacent. Or fully complicit and collaborative.
Look what Germany had to go through to purge the Nazis. And it didn't even take.
That's our future. Can't happen here? That's what the citizens of Berlin, Dresden, and a whole lot of other German cities said in 1939.
We're much closer to a Russian oligarchy than we are to Nazi Germany
Barely anyone cares. Retarded conservatives don't care when you point out their hypocrisy or dedication to a incompetent leader.
Democratic Establishment doesn't care they just want you to donate and vote to their campaign.
Campist Leftists don't care about the well being of the US economy.
Most normies probably don't even know about half of this.
Maybe 10% of the US population cares, and they're the ones posting stuff like this on social media to each other.
Art of the deal.
We are just the next casino.
I mean, no. There's a possibility of winning at a casino no matter how small. You can't win in USA because even if you bet on a factory, ICE is gonna come and rape your employees. So, no. Your odds are much much better in a casino. Hell, with what Trump is doing I'd say he makes a casino look like investing.
They stopped caring about a strong economy and low prices. Now it is about America First, and has Always been about America First.
Under no measurement does it seem that America is first.
Under the "rich people making a lot of money and being above the law" they are definitely first.
First to the bottom! (And now digging!)
And by America first. They want to fall first and fastest.
Maybe Qatar should not give him that plane now
I'm pretty sure it's a brick and they just want to be rid of it.
I'd say "White Elephant", but yeah...they've been trying to sell it for years.
Oh definitely. But that would be the greater kick in the teeth though if they’re truly angry.
It was a white elephant
A trojan horse white elephant.
I work in construction, and we've had no new bids come through in the past 2 weeks. That's never happened before, even during covid. I've noticed a lot less positive talk about Trump when I go into the office, though I doubt even this would be enough to make any of my coworkers reconsider their political views.
It's just teams at this point. Trump is just the quarterback that they're bitching about this season, they're not switching teams over it.
I want to compare Trump to DeSean Watson, but that's unfair to Watson.
We have clients all over, and the tariffs have been a point of concern for many of them. It's gonna hit businesses hard, especially for shit that is only manufactured overseas.
i noticed our area, residential houses are bougie enough to use white american construction companies, they probably cost a ton more. and the only other POC that does construction usually caters to asian households only.
Hyundai capitulated.

they have too many billions invested already. the question is how they are going to force koreans to come the states.
Pay them with a lot of American free speech.
Maybe spend the money to send US workers to Korean factories to train them?
Look on the bright side! Soy products must be cheap in usa now ?
Maybe we can have a soy dictatorship the way others use cheap domestic oil to entice support /s
I do not want to give the impression that I support this guy, but is there any evidence at all of some gains?
Maybe I'm dumb, but I don't why they would willingly bankrupt this country unless theyre just betting against us and look to take full control. I'm not sure what the value of controlling a derelict former superpower country would be.
It's like vandalizing a fantastic house to drive the value down and then moving in. Great, you own a piece of shit that was once special but is no more.
You already have a lot of responses, but so far none have included: Trump and some of his top staff are just not that smart. He destroys soft power projection not because he has some thought-out theory about its value, but because he can't follow the effect chain through far enough to understand the benefits. He really believed Ukraine and Russia were continuing to fight because they hadn't talked to a skilled negotiator like him: the underlying geopolitics is completely beyond his grasp. He seems to genuinely believe that the spending cuts to Medicaid in his Big Bill will not make millions lose their health insurance.
There are grifters all through the administration and its outside support with the corrupt motives described by other commenters, and Trump himself is greedy and selfish, but I believe he genuinely lacks the intelligence to understand what he is destroying along the way.
There are three primary factors at play here.
It's #2, first and foremost.
Tank everything so the rich can consolidate their power.
We know billionaires, they'll bitch and moan when their profits haven't increased as much as they increased last year. They wouldn't support Trump for his own gains or to appease a foreign agency for any amount of downturn. But to spend money on changing the rules and consolidating power, well, they haven't spent billions lobbying the government for fun.
Foreign actors looking to upset US hegemony.
Before putting Trump into the Oval Office, Brexit was hailed as Putins biggest victory over the west. We are losing left and right to his manipulations and all our governments stick their fingers into their ears.
Foreign actors looking to upset US hegemony. They don’t have to go to war, they don’t have to fight economic battles…just incentivize the right people to do the wrong things at home in the US, and we destroy ourselves. It’s cheap and easy for them.
Meme about China is "do nothing, win". They do not have significant diminishment influence operations in US. There is more of a natural disgust with our oppression.
Take your pick
I read Bill Browder's Red Notice about how he and others went in after the fall of the USSR. It explains very well how a former superpower was picked apart and the choice bits divvied up to make some future oligarchs very very incomprehensibly rich and powerful. Granted, it was a unique situation at the time since the USSR owned everything and they attempted to "give it back to the people."
It's scary. It's not dry nonfiction. And some of the rich people he learned from, met, and has some insight on, are quite interesting in hindsight. (Ghislaine's father, and Khashoggi family come to mind off the top of my head.)
But between the monopolies and current government trying to control things (like the Tiktok deal, and taking 10% of what was it, Intel?) There's a consolidation of wealth and power happening out in the open.
No, and the effects have not been as noticeable as they should be because too many cowardly CEOs are too afraid of being the first to enrage the Orange Turd by passing on costs to the consumer... but that won't last too long either
I can vouch for this. The company I work for uses a ton of steel and instead of raising prices our conservative CEO has just taken the monthly bonus that each employee used to get. So while our customers are thinking " this isn't so bad" we are footing the bill by being paid less.
Only thing I can think of is if you liquidate funds or suppress them being impacted while taking bribes like that alleged $2 billion in crypto they got, they ride out everything dropping in price living the high life still, then buy up as much as they can on their way out so they own large portions of companies as they get built back up by the next generation. The laborers and will still exists, and they can build it back with these people owning more and having more say in what happens.
Otherwise... Just power. If no one can say shit about you doing anything you want whenever you want and you can treat everyone else like shit... Some people enjoy it greatly I guess.
Is it so hard to believe that Musk and Putin, two foreign Sociopathic Oligarchs with no loyalty or patriotism, would team up with America's most massive psychopath, and treat America as a rich, fat, lazy, vulnerable target that DESERVES to be ruthlessly and mercilessly exploited and looted?
Without a strong government to defend our nation (thanks to relentless lobbying with a fraction of their massive fortunes), it was inevitable that this would happen, as more and more billionaires meant more and more of a chance of at least some of them using their influence to literally take over the world.
1 being an ILLEGAL alien, that got his citizenship under false pretenses, plus his brother. Musk's whole family is just as messed up as he is in the head. minus his trans daughter whom he hates.
is there any evidence at all of some gains?
Wall street seems to be doing okay. Slower growth, but line keeps going up
The value of the dollar is down like 10% from when he took office, so most of that stock market value is the same value but more dollars needed to represent it, not real growth. The rest is mainly the AI bubble - which has nothing to do with him
The stock market is a terrible measure of economic health.
They are generating revenue from the tariffs but it is not enough to offset the tax cuts and will decrease over time as there are fewer imports.
just deploying the national guard as a political spectacle was enough to surpass what the "doge saved", i read on reddit its already going to cost 200million.
They don't need to run the world, they only need to run America. It's really that simple. Oh and also Krasnov is a foreign agent.
even though OP is highlighting some losses/tensions, NATO colonies are being conquered hard, and that buys the US empire a few more years of "appearances of existing in a dominant position". For political purposes, elections, you can point to the complete explicit subjugation of colonies as "winning". Job losses, interest rates, currency depreciation, inflation don't matter if you can point to Europe/Canada sycophants doing worse, and paying for entirety US war on Russia. Blame for everything bad goes to someone else, and success measured in relative pace of decline. Make sure no one else is allowed to speak, and third term is secured.
Seriously, I can respect someone having the opinion that you can run a country like a company, but then for their candidate to run the ‘company’ so badly
I can't. Corporations exist to make a profit for their shareholders in the current quarter. Governments exist to protect the people from outside influences such as those corporations. Their goals are completely at odds. That's why every Republican president is followed by an economic downturn, because they did exactly what a corporation would do, steal from the future to increase profits in the present and then funnel those profits straight to the top.
Fucking wish Australia had just said to the yes to the French submarine deal we already signed instead of buying a bunch of virgin boomers.
hes doing what is told by PUTIN to him. make USA too weak, to help ukraine.
Don't blame American losers on Russians. Russians didn't vote for Trump, Americans did.
Why do you think it was the wrong direction? Depends whom it was for.
The dude is man that his best buddy Epstein got nabbed by America and set out to destroy it, since he can no longer be happy by fucking children and he wants the country that took away his favorite pedo time to suffer and die for it
“Look what you made me do” - Donald Trump in his mind probably
Everything just keeps getting more expensive.
Trump is why America can't have nice things

"tRuMp iS bEtTeR fOr ThE eCoNoMy!"
Oh, he is very good for his own economy.
It's econo-me, not econo-we.
Counterpoint.
I don't care to defend the guy at all, but is there anything he's done to actually help the US economy, as in, the general public, not billionaires? Has he done anything that made the US more money?
The military under Hegseth has gone hard on removing protections from harassment, and removing women from leadership. There are a lot of people happy about frat culture being OK again, and about having less chance of reporting to a woman.
Some people who make most of their incomes from tips will see a small tax break for a few years (the billionaire tax cuts are permanent, the tipped wages cuts are temporary).
Nothing broad-based helpful, no, but people who want to find a rationalization to support him have a few niche things to point to.
sighs okay
I guess it’s all someone else’s to gain.
this is a terrible typeface for more than like 4 words. you want to post text you should use a more legible typeface.
And yet with nearly every story of someone's loved ones being deported, their business going bankrupt or their entire means of affording necessities being on credit,
if they supported this orange bastard before, they still do.
Seems like every story of a working class Republican voter getting fucked by Trump ends with them saying "but I still support Trump and trust things will turn around"
Maybe his 'supporters' but not 'everyone that voted for him'.
Of the millions that voted, we don't really hear the voice one way or the other from most of those people.
For those that vocally supported him before, the thought of "I told you so" is so abhorrent they'd rather be all in than hear that sentiment.
He's got no meaningful opposition. It's vote for the Republican who says they love Trump. Or vote for the Cuomo-crat who says he loves Trumpism but thinks Trump is doing it wrong.
We've got two right wing parties. Their only critique of one another is that the other guy isn't business friendly enough.
Let's not be stupid and pretend for a second that the Dems and GOP are the same.
Biden and the establishment Dems are certainly corporation loving whores who are ok with atrocities so long as they make money off it. This is true.
But Biden et al didn't fundamentally end US democracy, mass revoke the rights of all US citizens, create the most well funded secret police to send minorities to concentration camps foreign and domestic, give full unrestricted support to Israel to complete the genocide and attack it's neighbors, alienate all of our allies, crash our economy nor launch the biggest domestic spy system in US history. (All of this since Jan 20th this year, BTW)
