According to the US Supreme Court, a US president cannot be prosecuted for crimes (if they're related to their official duties, but whatever goes, I guess). This means that Canada is faced with the fact that they're being attacked by a foreign power with a ruler not beholden to the rule of law. If they give in, they're going to be conquered by a king who is not bound by a national constitution, legislative body, nor courts. This is an existential threat to their freedom as individuals with rights.

The US' most important good is intellectual property. They rely on other countries to protect their IP. If you no longer rely on them for trade because theyre tariffing the shit out of your country, you don't need to appease them anymore by protecting their IP.

Well this shit is likely not helping american military moral, which is good since this war will be rough and Canada needs every advantage/deserter available.

The problem is, Canada has been secure so far because the USA has been an ally, and Russia knew that an attack on Canada from the north would be resisted by the USA. Not to mention the impracticality of the attack when the Arctic is frozen. But now the Arctic is becoming viable for ships and Canada finds itself sandwiched between two hostile nations, Russia and the USA, with the USA more likely to.collaborate with Russia in destroying Canada than to defend it. And Canada's military is very small compared to either of those countries.
